Stylish with great sound.
I was initially looking for a stylish compact, good sounding cd player. I wasn't bothered about Bluetooth or DAB etc. I decided to give this a try and let rip with a few of my CDs. I was really impressed with the sound. I listen to mostly Rap/Hip-Hop so I'm no audiophile but I do like to be able to hear the music. I like to listen to it loud but with so many sound systems the bass tends to distort with Rap music once you reach a decent volume. This doesn't do that. For the size I wasn't expecting the clarity this little box gives. My mother in law has a Bose (600 quids worth!) so I'm comparing this to that and I would say this at least equals the sound quality. I couldn't afford the Bose and had no intention of spending over 600 pounds on a cd player. But this is just the job for my CDs, really pleased with the sound quality. But that's not all! I do have a couple of cheap Bluetooth speakers so I can stream music from my music collection stored in Google Play Music from my Nexus 6. So I held my phone to the Sony and it paired straight away thanks to the NFC and I played some of my music via Bluetooth. Wow. The sound quality via Bluetooth was also very good, high quality. Very impressed indeed. I guess it's hard to convey sound quality to someone with words but all of my music is ripped from cd at lossless quality (flac) and then when uploaded to Google Play Music it's converted to 320kbps MP3. In my opinion it sounds almost as good as playing the original CD. The DAB just works. People are saying it doesn't, not sure if they had faulty units or not but it does work on mine. I don't listen to the radio much as it doesn't play the kind of music I like to listen to but for when we do have it on it works and sounds good. The display on the CMT-X5 is not the biggest and you have to be stood over it to see it but it fits in with the look of the unit even if it isn't very practical. The remote is small but does the job. If you're streaming via Bluetooth you can control the music on it with the remote. I haven't really used the USB input or the FM radio so cannot comment on those. I did try my PS4 headphones, which use a USB rf sender in the USB port but they didn't work (didn't expect them to to be honest as the USB is for input only, not output). I nearly bought the model down from this, the X3, but read this has a better sound so I'm glad I stumped up the extra money for this one. Very pleased.

Sony CMT-X5CDB Audio System
What a brilliant slick all in one device, was on the look out for a new sound system and came across this. This sound system by Sony comes in 3 different versions all of which look the same. The first, the CMT-X3 has CD, USB and FM Radio, the next, the CMT-X5 has CD, USB, FM, DAB and DAB+ Radio and the last, the CMT-X7 has all of what the X5 has plus Airplay meaning you can stream wireless, all your music from your desktop to it. All the devices have Bluetooth, has a remote and touch buttons at the top of the device, nice. I went for the X5 which is perfect it is 40W powerful and displays sound smoothly and very clear, not far off from a BOSE system which are amazing but this is cheaper. Just to mention the X3 is 20W powerful and the X7 is 40W powerful, if you are thinking of getting one. It is very simple to set up I know from reading other reviews some have had problems with picking up DAB radio I have not had any issues with this. I prefer DAB but there's also FM Radio so you have the best of both. If you like your CD's, this System plays them, also MP3 readable and if you have a smart phone you can link it with Bluetooth and play music wireless from your phone to the device, which again is simple to set up, if your not sure just read the manual. There's also an app called SongPal which is dedicated to this Sony system from which you will have to have the Bluetooth set up first. If you have an iPod you can connect it by USB. Best of all this Sony system is compact and doesn't take up any room at all. I highly recommend this, well done SONY.

Superb sound
This is a stylish and compact audio system. It is quick and very easy to set up and to operate. The remote control seems fine to me, not as fiddly as other reviews might suggest, but the range is not good, so I generally just use the Music Centre app on my mobile phone (connecting via Bluetooth and NFC are both fairly simple). Sound quality from CDs, mobile phone and iPod is excellent - actually better than that - I would say for such a compact box it is amazing. Trebles are bright without being tinny, and there is plenty of oomph in the bass. You really don't notice that it isn't a couple of speakers plus sub-woofer! I had read other reviews, and was expecting that the radio reception would be negligible, and it is. The aerial lead is the three-pin micro sort, so I couldn't even use powered external aerials that I already have. So for the radio, I just use the internet from my phone. Perhaps if you have a very strong radio signal, you might fare better. It does stagger me though that Sony go to all the trouble to make such a nice piece of kit and then give it such a poor radio. So as long as you are not expecting to have great DAB or FM reception, I can thoroughly recommend the sound quality, the look and the functionality of this system

Great unit
Just received this unit after highly praised recommendations. Sturdy build, and feels solid, not `plasticy` (although the case is obviously). Great sound, including wide stereo and EQ. CD playback is very good. Setup is simple with comprehensive instructions. Bluetooth connection is simple, and although it says its optimised for Apple stuff like Iphone and tablets, its connects faultlessly to Android devices as well, without problems,at least for me. Have successfully connected a Hudl 1 via bluetooth using `Spotify` music download system, and a Andoid smartphone, and the reprduction is great..Music already on the Hudl/smartphone also plays back without any `jitter`. Should be possible to connect my laptop to it too, trying that next. If you do the same, make sure your device is `discoverable` by all bluetooth enabled devices, otherwise the X5 will not link up at all. Its a bit pricey, but good value for money. Highly recommended.
