Works out the box. Quality is ok. Easy to use. Timer function works well just remember that if you have a powercut you may need to reset the time dial.

So, I grabbed this mechanical segment timer to manage my Christmas lights, because, let's face it, manually plugging and unplugging them is impossible to remember and sending the child into the garage to do it twice a day is apparently unfair.Setting it up was a breeze. I just dialed in the times, plugged in my paltry light display, and voilà!The real magic? Walking outside and feeling all Christmassy every evening without lifting a finger, and knowing I won't wake up to a still-blazing light show because I forgot to turn them off.In short, if you want to add a bit of punctual pizzazz to your festive setup, this mechanical timer is well recommended.

If you are looking for a timer that synchronizes with the NASA's nuclear clock, then I'm afraid this won't be for you. If you want something to turn on roughly at some given time, and then turn off at roughly some other given time, then it's perfect.The dial is too small to be overly accurate when it comes to setting the time (unless you can judge by eye a quarter of a degree angles per minute for a tiny dial) so if you're desperate for accuracy, or are trying to perfectly synchronize it with other timers, then this is most certainly not for you. Your best bet is to set it to the nearest quarter of an hour and go from there – and it will reliably do what it’s told day in day out.The actual mechanical switches are flimsy, difficult to differentiate and set, but with a little effort there's nothing really wrong with the timer. Of course this is under the assumption that it is for a basic non-time sensitive application. We use it to start a lava lamp in the living room, and despite my best efforts it turns on 4 minutes late. But honestly? Who cares. The duration of time it will be on will be perfect, but the actual initiation time will vary depending on patience.We haven’t had any issues with loss of time, although it if strays too far it can be twisted back to where it was fairly easy. The sound to us is inaudible, but having used a variety of timers for various applications over the years, I know that they can drive you up the wall if you are in a truly quiet room at midnight – so don’t take my endorsement as gospel.The build quality is decent, but clearly wouldn’t stand up to frequent and regular changes, but for everyday tasks it’s perfect. It doesn’t take up too much room in the socket and you could easily place plugs, or even other timers, next to it (as the pictures show.)Overall, decent for the price and if your uses are limited. For time sensitive and similar tasks I’d go digital.

Hilarious reading some of the comments some people saying it’s too small and fiddly other people saying they can’t read the instructions. What an absolute shower of nut jobs always complaining about something well me for one control all my lights in the house my greenhouse and my shed heaters, my grow lights And now Christmas trees and various flashy lights for Christmas absolutely brilliant under a five who cares if it breaks, but these are excellent value for money I also have the larger type mechanical timers that are very noisy and quite badly made but these little things are excellent. I also use the electronic timers that are accurate but who needs accuracy when you’re just switching a bloody light on, I found the electronic ones are not the easiest things to set and if you happen to press a button when you’re cleaning them you could end up changing the times or switching it off so these little cheap timers are brilliant no complaints whatsoever.

They do the job but I find it was very difficult to get the time right on them due to the way the dial turns. You have to use a fair amount of force to get it to start turning and then it jumps quite far ahead so you can't really get an accurate time very easily. They also make a clunking noise every 20 minutes or so, not sure what that's about.

Bought this as at the time my budget was low and couldn't really justify spending probably double the money for an electric timer. I've had this product in the past so I knew what to expect. It's a decent product t works for the use I want it for which is my heating for my living room. It does make a slight noise and can be heard continuously. It's not a major issue. But if was in a bedroom and were trying to nod off. For me would become an issue. But as a product it does work. And used for a few months but seems to gain a little time. As in I had it set to go off at 6am but after a while it would be like 6.01 then 6.02 and so on. Again not major issue. As I'd just reset the time after a couple of weeks. So all I Al pretty good product if I can't afford an updated timer
