My daughter loves Steve Smallman books. Big Bad Owl is funny and entertaining for little ones and my daughter asks me to read ir again and again!

I lived this book, as did my 3 year old.

Gutted I bought this book and didn’t read it before reading it to my 2 year old boy. He now quotes certain phrases. When a two year old shouts “flap off” it can sound a lot worse

There is a great joke for adults on the first page (my husband laughed out loud when I started reading) and my hopes were high.But I found it both twee and annoying. All the forest animals are trying to cheer up a grumpy owl. With a happy hat. Songs. Cuddles. But they get told to "twit off" repeatedly. I could sympathise.I think I would have preferred rhyming text.It was a little hard to read aloud with Owl's insults - as well as encouraging answering back and rudeness (though "flap off" is hardly a problem, but there are no consequences for Scowl).We both liked the drawings. But I don't think I'll be reading this again.

Beautiful story for 2-3 year olds. Story with a message.

Really enjoy reading this book with my 30 month old granddaughter. There's a lot to look at and discuss with her. She also enjoys joining in with the 'Flap off!'
