Use as directed
Just a freindly reminder to follow the instructions. I purchased a box of this, which I have used before to bould a forge in a propane bottle. I used it for a small project this time, and mixed up some product, filled a small void, or so I thought which was about 1 1/2" in width, by 3" deep, in a circle, or ring. the product never really hardened up. This product is made specifically for coating thin layers of kao wool to ruggedize and offer a barrier. it is great for that.

Perfect for my husband's forge
My husband has a propane forge for his blacksmithing. He's used Hellcote from Hell's Forge up to now, which is the only refractory he'd used that stood up over time. This past year we had to completely redo the wool and refractory but did it when HF was completely sold out of Hellcote. After looking around we settled on Satanite, and my husband LOVES it. Super easy to mix and apply, and the packages made it so easy to not make and waste WAY too much. We'll likely be switching to Satanite for the future, but so far I don't see us needing to redo the refractory for a while, and we still have plenty of bags for touch ups!

Thin layers
Good stuff for forge. Thin layers work best. Less cracking.

Easy to do and covers ceramic fiber insulation well.
Stuff is dusty as all mortar mixes are. It is smooth as pudding once wet. goes on easily with paddle stick or by rubber gloved hand. Just make sure to allow it to dry a bit then smooth out with putty knife or damp finger. Makes the next coat look better. Had plenty to do the two burner forge and used some to seal wood stove pipe. No more smoke escaping. Its a bit pricey but does a pricey task.

Blacksmithing product
A gift for my husband. Requires a second product (which we knew) to create the protective blanket for his forge. Good directions and easy to apply.

Unlasting durability
After applying a solid 1/2" layer in the furnace with the refractory cement being reinforced, it still started breaking off after only 1 low temp burn of only 600°. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Works and is easy to apply
This is to be applied in light coats Mixing ratios 1 cup of water to 1 lbs. of refractory (about a Red Solo cup worth), mix will be thin Apply with paint brush let dry between coats i applied 10 coats to my 3 forge This is not Castable so you your looking for something you can cast and mold this is Not for you Will buy again when needed
