Works like it should.
Heated this up with my blow torch and repaired the heat exchanger in my old boiler. Got me through the winter months. Cheap and easy fix for when parts not available.

does what it says
Very nice product ! works well just watch you heat on small items ! shame it was supplied with a advert leaflet and no instructions !! go to durafix website and print them off before using the rods ! on the whole nice and easy to use ! I use a silverline brazing and soldering torch running on propane

It does work, but follow instructions and clean both sides carefully
Firstly, I was concerned as so many people have complained that this doesn't work. I was using it to fill spotweld holes in the rear of 40 year-old Landy. I cleaned everything thoroughly and then used the supplied ali brush to ensure it was clean. I heated the aluminum as directed then wiped the rod around the holes and it ran and puddled as stated. I moved the the second hole and repeated this and all was fine. So, it works on aluminum bodywork ... but... I used an entire rod just on the bottom of one rear panel. It would be great if it came with more rods.

Didn’t work for me.
Firstly, I was disappointed to receive a couple of short rods, which made this item expensive for what it is. Secondly, it didn’t work when trying to weld two aluminium box rods together at a point just 38mm wide as the heat conduction prevented that small section from becoming hot enough to weld. The unqualified Item description is therefore inaccurate in my view.

Not worth the money
Ok it was only £7.00 but two miserable soldering rods and a cheap wire brush.

Used properly these are amazing.
No its not welding - it is really a type of soldering, not quite brazing as its too cool, but used properly these are really ultra handy and I will definitely use more and more of these to fix cast or pressed alloy things. Just like all soldering, your base metals have to be ultra clean - no tarnish, no scale, absolutely bare bright metal. Then just warm up the metal and keep dabbing the rod against it so you know its hot enough. It is easy to melt the rod as that has little mass, but your target object has to be hot enough to take the solder. I've done a few cast alloys cases with broken lugs etc, fixed a pan the other day which had a hole pitted in it too. The solder/rod material itself is definitely harder than the alloys your brazing/soldering as when you file/sand it down its easier to take away the parent metal than the solder. If you have a weak little butane torch and your trying to warm up a 1kg casting you will fail as you'll never get enough heat into the repair target. But with a MAPP gas torch, clean bright metal and these rods - you'll be amazed what you can repair.

Does what is supposed to do
Does exactly what there designed for although I'd add a bit of solder paste to the repair area first
