High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide

Looking for a ways to build my diesel. Have lots of experience in the gas engine world but this was the best read for diesel engines.

I discovered that one of my very favorite lang. arts students years later upon hiigh school grad. had become interested in the diesel engines and restoring the engines, etc. while he attened college as well. I found a couple of books, this guide being one, and was told by his dad that I had made an excellent choice. If one has the talent in this area, I would highly suggest it. After looking at the complicated diagrams that were very explanatory, I realized that I had chosen the best career as lang. arts teacher and not engine builder/restorer. It is wonderful that we have talented people that can read a guide like this and understand!!!I was very impressed. Very good manual!!

Although I have been a hot rodder for years high performance diesel are new to me and this book is a great introduction. Joe Pettitt's book is full of knowledge including the history of diesel engines but when I finished something felt missing. When I look through the book I noticed there were no step by step projects. I enjoy articles on selecting parts, building an engine, throw it on the dyno, tuning it and trying it out on the street or track. This book had none.This book was published in 2007 but diesel technology is advancing quickly especially with multiple turbos so it's about time for a new edition. Overall the book is one of best in an uncrowded arena.

I found this book to be very informative and good writting style.Diesel engines may lead the way for uses of different biomass fuels.This book gives you ideas and suggestions on how to upgrade and modifydiesel engines for more power and fuel efficiency. There are also quotesof comments from experts in the field. It also covers information on thehistory and performance of light truck diesels.

The Amazon review says that this book has a chapter on Volkswagen - but it defintely does not. Looks interesting if you are looking for truck info - but nothing there for VW!

If you are wanting to learn very in depth details about the building and performance of Diesel engines this book is amazing not for the faint of heart this is the serious stuff. Not an easy read lots of info and numbers about the mathematics of engine function.

Good book interesting to read gives you a lot of good technical info. Amazon said the book was in color and mine came in black and white not a big deal just something to point out. I would recommend this to anyone interested in diesel performance.

Further my knowledge about diesel engines
