Pettex Reptile Substrate Calci Sand 10 Litre

I did use different substrates for my tortoise table. Baby tortoise loves it happy to walk on it ,smell it and explore new textures. Every day I mist it a bit to keep a humidity at good level.

Always used this brand and been happy. But this time the bark grew mould after one day in the vivarium. Never happened before. So all went in the bin. Not using this brand again as I'm worried for my pets health nowUpdate - ordered a second time as thought it may be a one off .... it grew mould again. Now bought another brand and its been a week and all is fine (same conditions In viv).

Great for digging into and climbing up on etc. Ideal for my tortoise and will be ordering again.

I use this for my tortoise. It works perfectly. Easy to clean out and spot clean, keeps her enclosure smell free. She seems very happy on it.

My corn snake seems to have no strong emotions about this bedding, as with most other aspects of his life, so I'm guessing it's fine :) Good coverage - this bag will usually do for at least 2 uses of a large tank, and keeps structure well, allowing the serp to tunnel through it happily.

Very generous amount for the price, this substrate makes clearing messes really easy, as it clumps around any messes very quickly, which also helps eliminate odours.However, it's really dusty.This dust settled on everything, including the viv itself. All the decorations, the sides of the viv, the animals in it... Everything was coated in a fine layer of dust, that required washing to completely remove.The dust also settled on any food left in, which means you have to be extra vigilant in clearing any spills from the side of the foodbowl. The quick clumping around waste also causes quick clumping around food. And if any gets in a water bowl, it soaks everything up pretty quickly.I've bought Pettex products in the past that were absolutely brilliant, so this just means I'm likely to avoid this specific substrate in future. It didn't cause any problems, but it could have without more careful monitoring.

My tortoise was getting a very dry shell and skin whilst using pellets in her viv even after bathing. This soil maintains a slight moisture and her skin and shell have already got their moisture back. Really pleased with this product.

This substrate is probably as close to the tortoise's native soil as it can be, but as such it's very dusty and dirty when used inside the home. Our baby Horsefield loves it, and happily digs away when he/she's not eating, sleeping, or basking.
