Great mid level lens for small packages
It's sigma so it feels great, looks great and shoots great. Paired with a Sony ZVE-10 is a perfect small form factor power house. 30mm is a really nice happy medium for everyday shooting both lifestyle and portrait stuff. Auto focus is immediate. It really is hard to take bad photos with this lens. Small, light and well priced highly recommended for the a6k series or Zv series

Good value for money, a must have
As I spent my learnign months using only the sony a6000 kit lens (zoom lens) I needed a new lens. After research on quality and price check this seemed to be a good lens that matched my expectations. And it is what I expected from it. Using only zoom lens for a year, it was a challenge to try this one. But being a prime lens with a large aperture of 1.4 it helped me better integrate in my instincts how the aperture and distance from the subject in focus affect the look of the bokeh. The warm tones, the clarity and overall performace at high and low aperture make this is must have for any beginner or even for other pro photographers as well. To me Sigma is now a company I can trust and I am thrilled for my new purchase when I will afford to upgrade my gear.

Stunning sharpness and DOf
It’s my first time with that thin aperture dimension, and it’s crazy! The sharpness and the DOF are another level. Works perfectly with my Sony a6400. I am still have some flags regarding the manual focus but I haven't explored it so much yet. But overall highly recommend it

Upgrade to kit lens
After lots of reviews and YouTube videos looking at a lens to upgrade from the 18-50mm kit lens, I decided to go for the 30mm 1.4 sigma prime and all I can say is WOW. This is the fastest apature lens I've ever owned and I can say the difference from the kit lens 3.5 apature to 1.4 is incredible. I chose the 30mm as its the cheapest of a the 3 sigma primes and is the best all round for me. It works perfect with my Sony A6400 and I have had no issues with auto focus like in some reviews. This really does take your photos to a different level. The fast apature makes low light photos much easier and in good light allows you to bump your shutter speed to collect sharp images. The only thing I have noticed is its noiser than the kit lens when auto focusing but for me that's being picky and as I don't do a ton of videos it's no issue. I'd highly recommend this lens as an upgrade from the kit lens.

Amazing, Sharp, Bright low-light
For the price, this lens's performance is amazing. It takes brilliantly sharp images and amazing bokeh depth of field with the wide aperture this lens provides. Low light performance is also amazing. I would absolutely recommend this lens to someone who is looking for a good performance lens at a cheap price (In the photography world). I should note, that as of the time of this review, the details provided in the advertising of this product on this amazon page states that it has a 7x optical zoom. This is not the case, since it's a prime lens.

Great lens, great value for money
I love this lens! :) The picture quality is sharp with nice colours and skin tones. The bokeh at f1.4 is lovely. I use it for landscapes, portraits, street photography, indoors, outdoors - it copes with alsorts and is my 'always on' lens. The only problem with this lens is that you don't get straight lines when photographing walls and other straight lines on buildings, however this can easily be fixed in post with a teeny bit of editing. I also have the Sony 35mm lens and although the problem with straight lines is not seen with this lens, the sharpness and picture quality of the Sigma lens is superior.

Seven out of ten...
If possible, I would have given this lens 7/10 but decided to err on the lower side (3 stars instead of 4) for the reasons below. I have a Sony A5100 Camera and a number of prime lenses (including the Sigma 30mm f/2.8) but wanted a fast lens for indoor/low light. Given the excellent reviews I felt this lens would suit my needs and to be fair, to an extent it does, however… I believe these reviews are to help prospective buyers make a decision and therefore, I think there are a couple of things to be aware of. If you check the many forums and reviews for this lens you will find that whilst the majority of people have no problems at all, a small number have reported focus issues at f2 and a few have reported issues at f4. My copy suffers from the latter (f4). It’s very specific to this aperture setting and simply going one stop either way resolves the issue. Also, it only seems to be a problem when using AF-S, if I switch to AF-C it’s fine. It is also okay when using manual focusing (which I rarely do). Over the weekend I took a variety of comparison shots (this lens vs 30mm f/2.8) at f2.8, f4, f5.6 and f8. It was a bright day, all the photos were taken within seconds of each other and I used a tripod for consistency. I used AF-C at f4 with this lens to get around my f4 issue, all other photos were taken in AF-S. All the photos were very similar, with the 30mm f/1.4 generally producing very slightly ‘warmer’ results. However, I have to admit to being a pixel-peeper and, when cropped, the 30mm f/2.8 was always slightly sharper (this was hardly noticeable when viewing the full image on a computer screen). Wide open this lens is capable of some very sharp shots and I’ve managed to get some great photos of the grand kids (who never stay still) indoors at f1.4 through to f2. At this point I should say that both Camera and Lens have the latest firmware updates, I don’t shoot video and the photos are OOC JPEG’s. In conclusion. If you only shoot outdoors and you don’t need the subject separation you can get with a fast lens, go for the 30mm f/2.8, it’s smaller, lighter, cheaper and IMO slightly sharper. If you do go for the 30mm f/1.4 check for the f2 / f4 focus issue as soon as possible. If it’s there and you don’t feel you can live with it, Amazon are usually excellent when it comes to returns and (from what I’ve read) you would be very unfortunate to get two bad copies. Based on the reviews I’d read previously I was hoping this lens would replace the 30mm f/2.8 as my ‘all-rounder’, the lens that stayed on the camera most of the time, but for me, it doesn’t. I’ll keep it for its excellent indoor/low light capabilities but, if I’m going out on a nice day, I’m afraid this lens will be left at home…

I purchased this for my Sony ZV-E10, and it has quickly proven why it’s such a popular recommendation. The low-light performance is outstanding — the lens produces bright, clean images with beautiful depth even in dim rooms and nighttime outdoor scenes. The sample photos I included were all taken in low light, and the sharpness and detail speak for themselves. Autofocus is fast and accurate, and the overall build feels solid and premium. It’s also very beginner-friendly; switching from the kit lens was effortless, and the improvement in image quality was immediately noticeable. Price-wise, mine came in higher at $344 (I’ve seen others mention paying around $200ish), but the performance justifies the cost. If you’re looking for a dependable everyday prime that excels in low light and elevates the ZV-E10’s image quality, this is a fantastic upgrade.
