Joseph Joseph Can-Do Compact Can Opener, Tin Opener with Automatic Grip, White/Green

Brilliant bit of kit! I have been struggling slightly with grip recently, and this is so much easier than normal tin openers! Originally purchased for its compact size (which is very handy), I was surprised by how easy it made opening tins - much faster and more comfortable to use than traditional tin openers. So much so that I have purchased another one for my elderly mother in law who struggles with arthritis. Good value for money - not that much more expensive than normal ones, and feels solidly made so hopefully it will last a long time (only been in use a few weeks so far, so can't really comment on durability at the moment).

Brilliant little opener. Very easy to use and ridiculously sharp, first time I used it I twisted the handle and it moved so easily I thought it wasn’t cutting anything. Lid is retained and you have to press a button to release it, again very simple to use. There are no exposed blades so very safe. Small and compact and well designed.

Unfortunately we found ourselves going through multiple tin openers in a short space of time, so annoyed I searched amazon and came across this one. Recognising the brand I brought it thinking I may be in for some better luck and low and behold we have been. Great tin opener , easy to use even though my mum couldn't for the life of her work it which gave me a good 5 mins of laughter, but don't let this put you off she also still cant tell the tv remotes apart. Its smooth and cuts perfectly. The only issue I have so far is that if like me you buy your tuna in brine and like to open the lid so that you can use said lid to squeeze the tuna in the tin to get rid of the brine then you can with this one. I have now had to start draining into a sieve.

Worst tin opener I’ve owned. Do not buy. Would not spend £16 on this for any reason. Cannot handle all tins. The lid release feature is annoying as can’t leave lid partially attached to tin for recycling purposes Have spent 15 minutes on a single tin of tuna - sore hands, water everywhere and still not opem.

This is a brilliant item. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It cuts the lid off and you can easily dispense with the lid. There are many other companies selling this item at half the price but they are unbranded I know cause I have bought and they are all rubbish so make sure you only buy an original Joseph Joseph can do can opener it does exactly what it says on the tin

I bought this over a year ago. The idea is terrific — it's designed to work for both left- and right-handed users and seems easy to use. It started off well, but in practice, it’s frustrating. It often fails to open cans properly — sometimes only opening partway, leaving you struggling to finish the job. When it works, it's great! But sadly, it doesn’t work consistently. I’m now looking for a replacement.

This is a compact tin opener, but despite the compactness, it works!

We have a pair of OXO Good grips tin openers but although these are easy to use, my wife wanted some that would be easier again than these to use - probably an electrical style opener. I took a.look at Which? Consumer Magazine to see what they recommend and top of the list, above all the other hand operated and electrical can openers, was this compact opener from Joseph Joseph. It's not electrical but the review assured me that it was the easiest to use. It sounded great, so I ordered it. It arrived quickly and is very compact indeed, being about a third of the size of the Good grips. The first can I tried it on opened with no problem, it held on to the top of the tin and there were no ragged edges to cut my fingers on. Great!. There is a button placed right where your index finger rests that pops out when you turn the dial and you can press this, once the can is opened to detach the lid from the bagnet and drop it into the nearest bin. The second tin, opened partially and then the tin stopped revolving as I turned the top dial.I had to restart it several times and then give up and manually - and a little dangerously - hold on to the semi detached tin lid and lever and prise it off, getting some of the can contents onto the countertop. The third can worked beautifully and I thought the previous effort was just a glitch. Then the forth can wouldn't turn at all, the compact opener gripped the can and I could turn the dial and it was cutting slots into the side of the tin but it refused to turn the can. I had to grab the old can openers from the kitchen drawer (thank goodness I kept them) and popped open the tin in seconds. I honestly don't know what Which? reviewers think is so great about this opener as it didn't impress me at all. It is fairly easy to use, popping the gadget onto the top of the can and then you just start holding the openers in one hand and turn the dial on the top with your other hand - and it's no easier than the OXO ones. In fact, with a traditional opener, the can is pierced when the handles are pressed together and a good grip is established on the can in one movement and it's easy to do without much strength because of the force applied via the lever action of the handles. With this compact gadget, the side of the can is pierced when you begin to turn the dial on the top, which means you need to apply a little bit extra force with your fingers to push the circular blade underneath through the metal. It's not difficult but I'd say it was a little more awkward than the lever system As I have large hands and this is quite a compact design, it feels a little cramped to use. Instead of slicing through the top of the can, it cuts around the side, so there is no ragged edges and the top is detached cleanly. It's a good design It's expensive though and apart from the small circular cutting blades and magnet, it feels like tough plastic. The one I received may just have been a faulty item but even when it worked perfectly, it didn't blow my mind for its ease of use over the traditional ones I had ... which I will be going back to, as I've sent this mistake back to Amazon. Super disappointed in this neat gadget.
