Works perfectly with Linux, comfortable to use
Originally I dropped a star due to the price but it is a good quality item so on reflection maybe I'm being a bit harsh. I bought a second one later from Amazon warehouse for about half the price and it's a bargain at that price. It works exactly as you'd want it to and the scroll wheel is very good. Overall I found all the functions responsive and accurate. It's comfortable to use, well designed and the ergonomics work well. It sits flat on the desk and whilst bigger than a standard mouse it needs less space because it doesn't move around. I've seen some questions on here so I can report that it works perfectly on my Linux Mint 22 system. No setup required. Just plug in the USB and away you go. No extra drivers needed. I don't use it for gaming so I can't comment on that aspect. I

Superb trackball - ticks all the boxes
I have been a diehard mouse user, and badgered by son and partner (both creatives) to get a trackball. I hated trackballs - having used theirs whenever on their PCs. My argument for not getting one was that I couldn't scroll and had to fly over to the right of my screen to pick up the scrollbar, then I'd drift off it so it would jump up, and then the same process when i need to go back up the page. If you're constantly going up and down pages fast, it's a nightmare with a trackball. However, the mouse did make you crawl all over the desk, having to lift it up and down all the time when covering wide areas of the screen and running out of deskspace. After one such argument, I said "if only they made a trackball with a scrollwheel" - so I simply googled it and found this one. Read all the reviews, and there are many on there just like me, mouse users, in need of the scrollwheel, doing graphics, etc. So I was convinced and took the plunge. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!!!! Not having to move my mouse all over my desk is just fantastic, you realise you just put up with these things in everyday life because you have to, and now I don't have to I realise what an actual nightmare it could be. The buttons are very soft to click, it's such an easy, fabulous piece of kit. The blue rollerball is really nice to look at as well, if that's your thing, and the action on it is really smooth. I am so much zippier around my pages now. The wrist rest that comes with it is also a great bonus. The hand position is just right for me (whereas on son and husband's kensington the ball is too high and my wrist is at a sharper angle). So now guess who wants one just like mine?! If you're worried about taking the plunge on switching from mouse to trackball, this is the one to go for. And the price is pretty amazing too I thought (elsewhere on the web for around £30 which I did NOT want to spend). Highly recommended, except now I have to buy two more!!! :)

Excellent mouse but limited lifespan and overpriced.
I have bought three of these now. They last about three years before the button contacts start to wear out rendering the mouse unusable. I use the mouse mainly for dialogue editing and sound design. The reason I keep buying these in spite of their limited lifespan is because they are really easy to use when desk space is restricted or cluttered or you don't have a suitable surface to slide around a regular mouse. It takes some getting used to at first but when you get the hang of it it's actually easier to use, faster and smoother than a regular mouse. You can even have it on your lap or the arm of your chair because it doesn't need to be dragged around on a flat surface. The tracker ball pops out easily if the mouse is dropped but it's sometimes necessary to pop out the ball when the laser pickups in the ball socket get clogged with dust and fibres causing it to become unresponsive. When this happens you can just run a finger or a wipe around the inside of the socket and give it a good blow, then pop the ball back in. I think for the price that the build quality should be better. The buttons shouldn't stop working after three years.

Perfection!
I ordered this mouse on Friday at about 11am, and by the following day (Saturday, today) it had arrived by about 8am so 5 stars for delivery, even though I did order with one day delivery, but still great... the product itself is much better looking than what the pictures depict, and the build quality its just so. The size; tiny! Well not tiny, but in comparison to the images it is tiny. I would say that it is about twice the size of a 'usual' computer mouse and fits my hand perfectly. The scroll wheel works amazingly and no problems with that or anything else. The extension part for the wrist is made from a soft silicon rubber, and provides extra comfort for those with larger hands etc etc. the only downside, I would say, is the size of the trackball itself. Unfortunately for me the ball is a little too small for my hands, or shall I say that my hands are too big for the ball. Other than that it functions perfectly and exceeds my expectations! Well done Kensington! I would strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for a trackball, where it be a first or an upgrade. For those of you that are interested, I ordered this trackball for CAD purposes and a little gaming ^^ I must say that it works well with both or as a usual mouse doing normal things - Surfing the internet, word documents etc Great product, 5 STAR'S

Long term support opinion of Kensington
This is a long term review. More about the care from Kensington. After 30 plus years of using this companies products and with first rate service I now find myself replacing all of the products they produce with alternatives. Kensington do NOT give one jot of care about UK/EU consumer rights or protection, electing to hide behind ‘limited warranties’ intended for US consumers. Please beware when buying from this company their design and product performance is poor, and support is as pathetic.

Great tool for computing
OK well do you choose trackball against mouse and why? RSI can be extremely painful and moving a mouse can cause the onset of this - especially if used for prolonged periods. The trackball allows for finger tip control, precise and effortless no large hand movements. With this particular product you get a great tool well packaged - its not the most attractive trackball, but that's not an issue! what it is, is a well balanced, well designed ergonomic piece of kit. The trackball sits nicely just on the forward face centrally located, the scroll ring is great and a real must, the buttons are easily accessed and nicely positioned to be held in while using the ball. What do you get after you've used this product - relief from RSI, fantastic graphics, due to precise control. A must for anyone looking for a low price range high quality product to test the market of trackballs. I've bought three of them for my staff I was so impressed - don't have enough money yet to buy the company :)

Expensive for what you get
Tldr: good mouse but overpriced The ball movement is great and the tracking is perfect, the dial ring is also great But not worth for what I paid , the plastic feels cheap there aren't enough buttons and the two that are there are unsatisfactory, I had to disassemble and lube them to stop a squeek from where they where rubbing on the casing, not.something I qas expecting after what I paid for it, wouldn't recommend

Wow, a trackball... how '90s!
I have quite a small desk space, and wanted to find a way to squeeze my mouse onto the pull-out tray with my keyboard. My first thought when I saw this was "Wow, a trackball... how '90s!" but reading into it a bit more, I thought I'd give it a go. I'm so glad I did. This thing is awesome! From a practical point of view, the buttons, scroll wheel and trackball all work well. At first I noticed that the trackball was rocking forward when I used it, but I think this was due to my using it with an unusual finger position, and this has now stopped. The wrist rest is also a welcome addition, and even though when I first fitted it, I thought it might move around (it is after all just a cheap bit of plastic) actually it's been fine. Also no setup/compatibility problems with my Linux system. I think where this shines for me is from a ergonomic/user experience point of view. I find it really fun to use! Having control of the fine movements of the trackball with your fingers just feels natural. And if you push the trackball quickly and release your finger, its momentum carries the mouse further for a fraction of a second. Very satisfying. Similarly, I love the scroll wheel. There's a certain "roughness" to its movement within its housing which gives a very pleasant tactile sensation, and just the right amount of resistance. The whole mouse sits under and supports the hand really well. Some of my experiences with this item are obviously very subjective, but if you're curious I'd say it's definitely worth a go!
