Prym - Maxi Plastic Blue (Large) Knitting Mill - 1 Piece

I bought this machine for hats and scarves . It comes with a handle and legs that you fit into the machine very simply. The crank handle is already connected. There is a soft plastic needle in the packet that you might not notice as it is taped to a cellophane bag. The needle is very useful because it is for casting off and being soft, it doesn't dig into the plastic of the machine and flexes just enough to scoop up the stitch. It has a large eye too which makes it handy for sewing up your finished work. I have my needle taped to the side of the machine with a bit of electrical tape so that it cannot get lost so easily. As soon as my machine arrived, I cast on and knit a complete hat and scarf for the Christmas present pile in one afternoon including a couple of false starts. before the (adult) recipient was around to see them.... This can make hats for an adult and I think they would also fit children and could be adjusted for size by choosing thicker or thinner wool or doubling up the hat (knit tube 2 X hat length,gather ends,poke one into other and turn up a cuff). There are so many videos about using this type of machine on youtube that it is easy to find information before actually committing to buying. Look for the innovations machine videos which are exactly the same machine as the Prym maxi (although I dont think the same manufacturer but who knows?). Also the larger Addi express machine videos are quite useful for technique except the Addi has 2 needles more and a row counter. Casting on is very easy and if you find your wool is too thin, you can just use it double or treble. I have tried my machine with doubled up 'double knitting' ,single chunky, pure cotton and aran wools. There is a bit of a learning curve,mostly it is around where to be looking to notice if a stitch is going to drop and once you understand how a stitch forms, it becomes much easier. You can knit flat pieces on this machine too. There is a switch on the side which you slide to give either circular or flat knitting. Really the flat knitting setting only stops the work before it can rotate fully and you must crank the handle the opposite way. For circular knitting ,you crank whichever way is most comfortable and stop when you like. You need to be able to hold this machine still while you crank because it is quite light and stands on a table without any kind of fixing. I think if you needed to manage it one handed,you would need to have someone fix it to a surface for you possibly by drilling a little hole through each leg and adding some sort of ties or a bracket or clamp. Im sure it could be done with a bit of thinking it out. Using weights with this machine would improve the experience because every now and then a stitch will come off due to bunching up of the work . A latch tool would really help too to pick up any dropped stitches as you see them . Some people have their machines set up on a work mate type bench so that the knitting can dangle down through the hole. Some have a table they have customised with a hole cut. I dont do either of these and it still works well and means it is portable. The machine itself is 16 inches wide including the handle and about 13 inches tall so you could take it along with you if you are going visiting for example providing you can carry the wool and the knitted work. It would be awkward in a bag on the bus but not impossible and would be easy to put in the car to transport although I think you would be a bit cramped trying to use it actually IN the car. . You cannot really watch TV while using this machine! You need to be watching the stitches form.

I bought this for my wife with some trepidation. Opinion seems to be split to quite a degree on how good or bad this machine is. I needn't have worried. I will first say though, that the included visual instructions could be better. But a visit to YouTube proved invaluable and very quickly my wife was knitting away with it. No dropped stitches apart from right at the start of a project - but we are warned about that and simply coaxing the yarn back where it should go with a probe worked well. Once a couple of rows were carefully done then it was time to speed up a bit. No dropped stitches and very satisfying to watch! The tensioner works well. I see some take that off and tension by hand but we had no problems adjusting the tension by looping the yarn through the tensioner as instructed, depending on the type of yarn being used. Not too noisy either and the handle is easy to turn whilst holding on to the main handle for stability. Hats are produced in only a few minutes - amazing machine. I did look at the very expensive Addi, but couldn't justify the price at the time. I'm sure the Addi is a great machine and has a counter of course, but this Prym machine is a great introduction to this form of knitting and, if needed, an electronic counter can be retro fitted by someone with some practical skills. Such counters are widely available and cost around £15 to buy. A YouTube search for this will show what I mean. Anyway we are really pleased with the Prym. A great value machine which is a joy to use and produces very satisfying results. Thoroughly recommended!

I watched many videos before purchasing which gave very helpful learning skills. I also velcroed the legs to a large heavy platter, took off handle, put a salad spinner under it, and orderd a row counter that attaches to machine and will count the rows. I have made hats for children, little backpacs for stuff bears I made. It works real good. Made a scarf for adults. You need to watch what you are doing and take your time. I have dropped stitches, but did that on my more expensive machines also. I have been selling things I make, getting more orders which keeps me busy. I give this 4 stars only because I have had to buy row counter and figure out way to attach it so I could have it more stable without the handle.

This machine makes hats and scarfs in 15 to 30 minutes. It takes a while to get to grips with loading first few rows but once that is done its easy to use. Practice makes perfect. Mine is a little stiff so my arm ached after a bit so I left it then came back to it. You have to be more careful with the first few rows as it can sometimes drop stitches. I found that if I weighted the wool with bull dog clips the problem was solved. The item is light weight but not flimsy although you have to use one hand to steady the machine and the other to crank the lever to knit. I really like this machine for doing tube knitting however it is not so easy for panels as it does not have stop ends. I have an addi express kingsize for doing panels that can make adult to children's clothing and is more versatile Addi ones have end stops to automatically knit the size required. After saying this this prym machine is a good starter machine for a non knitter and its fun. I use mine for all our families hats and scarfs. It takes double chunky and 4 ply wools. I did samples to see which I liked best.

Despite the efforts of several adults as well as my granddaughter we were extremely disappointed with this item. It appears easy to set uo and starts off ok but then it starts to drop stitches and we have not been able to make anything with it. Very disappointed 7 year old. I would have returned it but ran out of time due to stay in hospital.

It works fine i only used it once saw it on tiktok and i could already picture myself making scarfs for all my friends but till the time i figured out how it worked my adhd ass was already over it. Its cool to have but i dont think ill ever touch it again.

bsr merci pour se bon tricotin je l'adore et très facile a utiliser je ne conte plus les bonnet et écharpe que jais fais en si peux de temps la je suis en train de faire un snood et un bonnet réversible pour a petite fille je vous joins quelque photos se tricotin se travail comme sur ma machine a tricoter ces les même base je le conseille a toute celle qui veux l'utiliser je suis allez sur YouTube pour apprendre a le mètre en route et je conseil a toute mes amies fb ces que du bonheur merci bcp je ne manquerais pas de refaire une commande bientôt et en plus les livraison sont super rapide en deux jours il été a la maison je vous souhaite une bonne soirée jy retourne mon tricotin ne m'attend pas lol

Lo consiglio a tutte quelle che come sono sempre un po’ dubbiose nel riuscire. Il web è pieno di video con tante cose sfiziose, provate! L ho comprato usato ma lo trovò perfetto, è resistente e in ottimo stato, ero un po’ titubante per acquistare usato e invece devo ricredermi. Volevo comprare un king size sempre 46 aghi ma costa più del doppio di questo, l unica differenza nn ha il contagiri e ha un solo ago colorato, ma nn è un problema! È perfetto
