Great to learn about majors, but college information is inaccurate.
I bought this book to help my daughter pick a college major. She is a freshman Interior Design major and is thinking about switching to a different major but doesn’t know what else interests her. For that purpose, this book is incredible. It lists every conceivable major with information about the type of person who would be good in that major, the types of classes you would take, how to assess the program at colleges you are considering, and types of jobs you can get with that major. My reason for deducting one star is that half the book is devoted to lists of colleges that offer each major (the major is given and then followed by the sub category of states and then which schools in that state offer that major) and there are numerous errors in that section. I wouldn’t trust it to tell you which colleges offer your major. As I mentioned, my daughter is studying Interior Design. She is in a CIDA accredited program at a well known large public university. It is not listed as offering Interior Design. In fact, of the 10 colleges she applied to (all of which had accredited programs and all of which are well known large public universities), this book only thinks 6 of them offer that major. Being 60% accurate is terrible for a book whose entire purpose is to tell you about college majors and where they are offered. In addition, in the section on majors they state to look for a school that is FIDER accredited. That is also wrong. FIDER has been called CIDA since 2006 (12 years ago), but the makers of this book don’t seem to know that. People reading this book and looking for a FIDER accredited school will never find one b/c that is no longer name of the accrediting body. I can recommend this book to learn about the different majors available; however, I recommend you do your own research online and on the actual college websites to find out if the major you want is offered by a particular school.

Useful but misorganized
The book is useful as far as finding out what each major is all about. However, I feel the information could be organized better, perhaps with the colleges offering the major listed along with each major description.

It was recommended by the career center at my daughter's high school ...
I wish I had this book when I was thinking of college. It was recommended by the career center at my daughter's high school years ago. I just got it for a friend. It helps people look at what they enjoy and are good at, what field of study that applies to, and what careers are possible with that degree! It would be great to explore your Junior year in college as you begin looking at colleges. Get a post it note pad because this book is brimming with possibilities!
