This book is so simply written, yet full of wonderful snippets to help the reader with family-related issues that we need. The simple way this book has been written is beneficial because it helps us to grasp the knowledge and wisdom being shared in the pages. The author also offers practical guidelines (tools) designed to help us move forward, whatever that may look like to each of us. Knowing that our learned ways and behaviors follow us into our adult relationships, I feel that this book is a must have on everyone's book shelf. Relationships are not easy. People can be complex.Also, the exercises provided are helpful because they invite us to dive deeper. In doing the exercises provided you may discover something about yourself and your family member(s) that could be an "aha!" moment.Of course, having a therapist alongside your journey to reclaiming your true self could be a wise decision, if that's something you need.We were not responsible for what happened to us, but we are responsible for our own healing. If you are ready to or are already on your healing journey of re-discovering your Self, then this book is necessary.

Read this book if you have a dysfunctional family or relationship with family members (including in-laws and extended family). Read this book if you think you don’t.Nedra outlines several different types of familial relationships and how challenging it can be to work through dysfunction or things we have considered normal that are not. Nedra also provides wisdom and tools on how to overcome the many challenges that occur in relationships with family members with gentleness, understanding and realistic observations and advice.Please keep in mind that there will likely be much to unpack from both your childhood and adulthood. It can be an incredibly emotional process in which you might need to take breaks and pauses. However, it is a worthwhile endeavor that will allow you a new, healthier perspective on your relationships with others, and it will cause you to re-evaluate yourself and how you interact with others. This is necessary wisdom for cultivating peace and harmony in your life.I wish fellow readers an eye-opening and heartfelt journey. i saw the author of this book on a podcast, and her work makes so much sense. my granddaughter asked for a copy to help her navigate her relationship with her parents, and i felt it was a great idea. this book is chock full of sound, healthy advice and plenty of examples of how to utilize it for peaceful interactions. in case the preceding doesn't feel like enough of a motivator, please keep in mind that we just finished a contentious presidential election and also the holiday season will soon be upon us. need i say more?

I appreciate the down to earth language. No need to decipher, you get what you need to understand the what and why. I haven't completed reading her book, but hoping I will get the how as well.
