Seriously break-in was a few hours. Love these. Review: Can I give the boots a zero rating? Bates, at one time was a top grade footwear manufacturer. Unfortunately that is no longer true. The leather is thinner than other paratrooper boots that I have owned. It feels like a piece of cardboard had leather glued to the surface and this was made into these boots. There is no storm flap inside of the zipper. My other boots had a thin leather strip stitched to both sides of the zipper to keep dirt out and to a lesser extent water. This pair of boots has none. Even the pair of boots that I purchased decades ago from Montgomery Ward had the flap....and was made with better leather. Granted, that was decades ago, but those boots were the store brand and dirt cheap. The crowning glory, if you can call it that, is the nylon zipper. Nylon zippers are OK in certain applications, but the teeth on the zipper should be sufficiently large to take the stress and bending. The zipper on these boots is the same size as those found in a pair of jeans. A small tag, inside the boot explains everything. "Made in Bangladesh" Odd how that is nowhere to be found in the product description. It seems that Bates, like a lot of companies, is trading on their old reputation.

The 10 was to big but felt comfortable i thing I would have to get a 9.5 I was born with clubbed feet so it's hard to buy shoe and boots that I can't try on

The zipper not going all the way down makes it a little hard for me to slip my foot in and have the strings tight for a snug fit, but once its on it feels fine. No issues walking in them and they look good.

These boots fit me perfectly. I was worried too, from reading the reviews of other people. Like some people complained about having trouble with the snaps, I did not. I just snap the back one first, then push the front one in about an eighth of an inch to tighten the top of the boot a little bit and to take the strain off the zipper, that made snapping it shut easy. I believe the snaps were designed to work this way and were not this way by accident, as other reviewers seem to believe. I did buy a better insole for it though like I always do. I have a wide and thick foot which makesit very difficult to get the boot on and off, so I just loosened up the bottom laces a bit and leave them that way, now the boots slide off and on a lot easier. I am really glad I bought these. Thank you.
