Great remastered release from Eureka for Super Cop's 30th anniversary!
Jackie Chan is back in his third outing as Inspector Chan Ka Kui as he's recruited to infiltrate a drug lord's organisation who's responsible for trafficking huge amounts of drugs across South Asia. Accompanied by the tough no-nonsense Inspector Jessica Yang (played brilliantly by Michelle Yeoh) this undercover duo must watch eachother's backs at all times as they fight to keep their true identities and motives hidden from the ruthless and volatile drug lord and his henchmen. Cue the trademark death defying stunt work, fight scenes, explosions, shootouts and comedy that the series is well known for and this time on a bigger scale. The action takes viewers on a mini tour of Asia as we go from Hong Kong to mainland China on to Thailand and concludes in Malaysia. Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh make for a great pairing displaying their martial arts prowess and willingness to put their bodies on the line to pull off some amazing stunts that will leave you on the edge of your seat and wincing at the heavy knocks they take. There's also some genuinely funny moments along the way and it was great to have a bunch of returning characters from the previous two films make an appearance also. Though it doesn't quite capture the magic of the first film it's a little step up from part 2 which did drag in places and had a bit more of a serious tone. Supercop is fast-paced fun that hardly let's up once it gets going. For the films' 30th anniversary Eureka has put out a 4K remastered stand-alone Blu-ray for those not opting to grab the 4K UHD trilogy box set and it looks fantastic! Eureka's previous Blu-ray releases of both part 1 and 2 looked gorgeous also so I didn't feel the need to upgrade. It's a lovely vibrant transfer with great detail. Also bundled inside the Blu-ray case is a booklet and 4 double-sided lobby cards and very nice artwork, both new and retro, on the Blu-ray sleeve.

Michelle Makes This!
Stanley Tong takes over directing duties on the third Police Story film. And added into the mix is the wonderful Michelle Yeoh who mixes it with Jackie, doing her own fights and stunts and very much holding her own. This film is a blast from start to finish with some great fights, awesome action and terrifying stunts! A must own for any fan of action cinema, Asian film, Jackie Chan or Michelle Yeoh. Head and shoulders above almost any offering from Hollywood!

At last, a half-decent version for UK viewers!
Ahh, Police Story 3. For me, the holy grail of Jackie Chan movies. Why? Well, two reasons. Firstly, it's great - up there with the best of JC's films. Secondly, it's so damn rare to get hold of a decent copy in the UK. The film has Chan's Hong Kong cop teaming up with Michelle Yeoh's mainland Chinese officer. The main plot has them breaking a criminal out of prison in order to ingratiate themselves with a gangster they wish to bring down. All this, of course, is just a skeleton on which to base some of the most ludicrous stunts ever seen on film. The last twenty minutes have to be seen to believed, including Yeoh's incredible motorbike jump onto a moving train. All good fun. For my money, this is top five Chan. Certainly the best of 80s/90s "action/comedy/adventure" output. Now onto the DVD itself. Apart from one VHS release in the 90s and very, very rare screenings on Channel/Film 4 in the UK, this hasn't really had a proper release. There must be serious rights issues at play here. Why has one of JC's best films never seen a DVD or Bluray release in the UK? Every other Police Story movie is widely available, why not this? Of course, there are foreign releases of this, but you're not always guaranteed they will be English-friendly. Even the US version seems to the hideously butchered "Supercop" version, dubbed only and with a Western hip-hop soundtrack. Then you have to get into multi-region DVD players etc. I used to have one, but in slimming down the amount of junk in my flat, I now play films on my PS4 - so for me I just want a decent region 2 or region 0 copy, with English subtitles, that will play on that and upscale nicely and look decent on my TV. So I took a risk on this version. Boy, did it pay off. It's Australian, plays fine on the PS4 and is the full, uncut, original language version (with subtitles). Picture quality is perfectly fine, anamorphic and is in NTSC format, which is worth bearing in mind. Subtitles are fine, although with some spelling errors. This is absolutely the best version currently available for the UK viewer who doesn't want to get involved in multi-region players etc. I was just pleased to fill a gigantic hole in my Jackie Chan collection. Now let's hope sometime in the future a decent company get the rights and gives this the full bells-and-whistles Bluray this film deserves. I'll be happy to buy it again! In the meantime, this is more than enough to be going on with.

This was a German made video, very disappointing that the sound track is German, was not able to turn subtitle on, for English. Used copy and it is not worthwhile returning it as postage from Canada is more expensive than what I paid for it.
