Hi Dexter,This GBIC will work. However, there are other GBICs that will work but they depend on the fiber you are using. Are you using multimode (62.5/125 or 50/125) or single mode? This GBIC supports multimode fiber at 550m. The below models are compatible with the switchHP X121 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver J4858C - this model. Multimode only. 275m at 62.5um. 550m at 50um.HP X121 1G SFP LC LX Transceiver J4859C - Multimode and Single mode. 550m at 62.5um and 50um. 10,000m for single mode.HP X121 1G SFP RJ45 T Transceiver J8177C - CAT5e/6 - 100mHP X120 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver JD118B - Multimode only at 550m.HP X120 1G SFP LC LX Transceiver JD119B - Multimode at 550m and single mode at 10,000km. Hi, will this work in an hp procurve 1710 switch?

Shouldn't be a problem. These even work on my legacy 3com switches as well as HP 2530 and 1910 switches.
