Excellent chess set for the blind, just takes a little work
This is my first review after being on Amazon for a really long time, but I felt folks should know the deal on this board.I am totally blind, and I have now purchased 3 of these sets, two for myself and another for a blind friend, and out of 4 types of blind sets I've purchased , this is by far my favorite. It is small enough to put in one's lap and play anywhere, on the couch, in bed, in front of the computer etc.Once you get used to the feel of the pieces, you'll be moving around the board and setting up pieces super fast. The one issue as others have stated, is some of the pieces are too tight when trying to take them out of the board.I bought a wood file, and by filing a bit off the pegs to lower the diameter a little, , I have my board where it is very easy to get the pieces in and out of their squares.Simply lay the file flat against the peg, using the bottom of the piece itself as a guide, then file away a little bit, rotate the piece a little at a time, and file a bit more. Check the fit in a few holes, then file more as needed. Just be careful not to over do it, as you don't want the pieces flopping around. It is a bother to have to do this, no doubt, but it only takes about 20 minutes total, and it is well worth it, and you can pay 4 times this price for a blind chess set.Lastly, there is a large community of blind chess players out there, a quick google search will lead one to all kinds of info and sites, where friendly people play online and discuss chess. My name is Che Martin, look me up if you play.Have fun!

Very disappointed and dissatisfied in this product
The media could not be loaded. The pieces are cheap plastic and one of the pawns is missing the foot at the bottom that holds the piece to the board. Also, the wholes on the board are too small so the pieces are hard to set in and hard to get them out. I will drill them with a bigger drill bit to fix the problem but for the price I paid I would expect nothing fancy, but in proper working condition.

Overall, a good buy for the price, and I would definitely recommend it for people...unless they are frequent players.
I love Ches, and I was really excited when I saw a more affordable version of the blind-friendly Chess game. It works well enough. It can be slightly tricky to distinguish the difference between some of the pieces as a few of them feel fairly similar to each other, particularly if you're not used to this particular make. As I said, though, it works well enough, particularly as a travel set, which isn't necessarily meant to be used regularly. For an accessible version of Chess, this does, in some ways, live up to its price as I can already see it starting to fall apart, and I've only played Chess with it maybe three or four times. The other thing that doesn't help is that some of the pieces really wedge themselves into different holes in the squares and refuse to come out, so that, I'm sure, doesn't help with the maintenance. HahaOverall, a good buy for the price, and I would definitely recommend it for people, but if you're a frequent player of the game, invest in a decently made, most probably more expensive board and pieces.

Travel chess and visually impaired chess
I bought this a couple years age and when I received it I wasn't impressed with its crafty style of construction, but now I can say that it has been great for my boys and I. We've taken it camping, in the car nearly everywhere and it preformed great and is a lot stronger than it looks. If it ever breaks, I'll definitely purchase another.

Opens Up a New World for the Blind
I lost my vision not too long ago and really missed playing chess. I always loved the strategy and creativity involved in the game. I found this on Amazon's website and purchased the game. I was skeptical at first but learned how the game was very innovative. Squares are raised depending on color. Black is raised and white is indented slightly. Each square has a whole that fits each piece, which also has a peg on the bottom. This allows the blind player to feel around the board and playing piece without them sliding around or falling over. The white pieces also have a small peg on the top to distinguish them from the black pieces. The new way to play requires alot of patience, but the effort is worth the overall experience. I have played only sighted individuals and have posed a challenge to the most experienced chess player. This is an investment for blind people.

Great Board
I have the table top version of this as well, but am strongly preferring this set. It's nice that it folds over, and has a latch to keep it closed. The squares are easy to feel, with one color being raised. The pieces are easy to distinguish between with just hands, and the board has worked great for me. The only problem that I have had is that the pieces do not always seem to fit the holes. Some are too big, and some too small. With even that problem though, it is still a great set, and is definitely a good option.

Make one yourself instead
The pieces are good. The board is junk. Rough stinky venier with bad paint. The inside of the board is even marked "plywood veneer". I feel cheated.
