For sealing is this product recommended or the clear wood finish mixed with thinner?

I typically thin about 50% for lathe work but use out of the can for other projects. Try both and determine which is better for you.

does this leave a flat finish?

No. It's more a satin finish. I often left it as my top coat.

Can it be the top coat? I'm looking for something uber cheap to help stop the paint from sticking to things after it dries.

20 years ago, I came into a new development to do some punch-list items. I was on salary working for the "builder", a non-profit group. We ran short on money. ANYWAY, I had some bifold doors to stain and seal. The painter told me what he used, and it was Glidden stain and 3 coats of Glidden sanding sealer, sanded between coats. I had never used sanding sealer before. It's like a watered-down varnish which dries quickly. the project turned out GREAT. The doors looked like they were done in a spray booth. There was no final finish, just 3 coats of sanding sealer. It was oil-based sanding sealer. I see now that there are a lot of water-based sanding sealers. I would opt for the oil-based producl.

Can the sanding sealer be thinner to allow faster drying time before sanding? I wood turn to allow faster

This sealer dries very fast. I am comfortable sanding after 1-2 hours. I don't know if it can be thinned.
