I don't know how consistent the quality control on these Chinese made vises is, but the one I got is well made and worked fine. The blue finish was very uniform and appeared to be thick enough to provide good rust protection- the exposed metal areas should be wiped down with a slightly oily rag to keep them from rusting after handling. I did have to adjust the hold down screws on the bottom of the sliding jaw to tighten it up slightly so it was not too loose but still moved easily. The screw that opens and closes the moveable jaw attaches to the center of the jaw, so whatever you clamp in the jaw should at least have a part of it be in line with the center of the jaw so that the work is clamped parallel to the fixed jaw. Compared to other drill press vises, the price for this one seems very reasonable. All in all, a very good product and highly recommended with the only caveat being the consistency of the product quality control.

I need to do some precision grinding on a small metal object and needed this instead of my huge bench vise so I could do my work on the porch plus be able to move this around much easier to do my precision work and the plus for me is that I plan on getting a drill press later on for my workshop so it was a no brainer to go ahead and get this type of vise for future use on many projects. I was actually surprised at the quality when I opened the package. This is a very sturdy and solid made vise and should last you a lifetime. I am well pleased and it was a great deal larger than I expected which is also a pro for this item. I highly recommend this item if you are in need of this type of vise. You won't regret it.

quality tool, affordable price , user friendly, received in good condition.. no missing or damaged parts... fits my 10 in, drill press, use 2 welding clamps to hold in place..... HOWEVER.... all machined edges sharp as razor blades.. need to hand file ... jaws surface excess burrs ...leaves marks on item being clamped.. need to hand file.. phillips screws loose... need to tighten... they were countersunk enough - good... threaded main clamp screw works well, straight, but sloppy threads...no jaw binding...smooth action.. bottom is generally flat and mates well with drill press platform with almost no 3 point wobble..... would have prefered added small vertical and horizontal vee groves in one jaw to better grip and hold items perpendicular or horizontal .... added very thin coat of 3 in 1 non detergent oil on all machined surfaces... to reduce future rust ... almost a 5 star... but didn't quite make it.. i recommend.. I would purchase again..

It is difficult to find good quality at a decent price these days. Irwin usually comes through. It is not daily use professional durable, but for the occasional use it more than suits my needs. Easy to mount and use on my Wen drill press and provides a strong hold.

I needed a light drill press vise to sit on the t-slotted table. I will be using it for drilling light metal and small pieces of wood. I have angle blocks and a larger cross slide vise for bigger jobs. Sometimes you like to center punch your wood or metal, and let the spinning drill find the punch mark by moving the vise a tiny bit. This one is perfect for that because it's lightweight with a thin profile. The design, the casting, and the machining quality are good. The milled surfaces are nice and flat, and have a good finish. You will have to break all the sharp edges with a file, but that's easy and quick to accomplish. The soft knurled jaws are also milled flush with the iron body, which gives it a quality look. You can find heavier duty, better quality, or cheaper drill press vises, but this one is a good compromise. Highly recommended!

"IRWIN Drill Press Vise, 4.5” Jaw Capacity, Forged Iron for Ultimate Durability, Slotted Base for Easy Installation (226340)" This is NOT a 4.5" Jaw Capacity, it is 4". I bought this instead of others because of the extra half inch. I opened it up all the way and it's just a tad more than 4" if it's all the way open, but even the vice has a "4" on it. Besides the false advertising, it seems like a solid product and it was inexpensive.
