Desperately seeking Susan 2 trilogy ?
I decided to buy this movie because it seems like more of Madonna in Manhattan or urban New York "extended" i think.I'd never seen this movie before or so I thought. When I started to read the reviews here I realized I'd seen at least part of this movie before on cable once in the 80's, Madonna got some guy arrested for shop lifting "just because she could" a reviewer wrote, I realized I'd seen this movie before or atleast that scene. I remember the scene Madonna is helping herself to some not so free cassette tapes or CDs she's "lifting" she plants a cassette tape on some poor unsuspecting schmuck so he can trip the metal detector while she walks a way Scott free with all those cassette tapes she forgot to pay for. While the guy she duped gets detained by security, that's classic Madonna so cool so suave ( unless your that poor schmuck) thats the only scene I remember from that movie, but I'll bet when I watch this movie it will be like dejuvu ,watch it again for the first time, but I brought this dvd mainly because its seems like desperately seeking Susan 2 in a way, more of madonna being Madonna.Charmed, she cuts you and Laughs while your bleeding thats madonna alright ,but she's far from evil.In fact to me.She seems like a fallen angel from the heaven's.The brunettish one with the big funky (awesome) eyebrows & a real body a less polished sculpted femme fatale than future incarnations, but one who's rawness & youthful confidence is her charm a reviewer once wrote. How could I not buy this dvd. These are the only 2 movies I have of Madonna, desperately seeking Susan is some what of a master piece & my favorite. It's a master piece of urban art and imagination dreamed up probably overnight or over a cup of steaming cappuccino, born out of a day dream perhaps then slapped on a peice of canvas at a moments notice or the silver screen where it stuck and stuck pretty d... ! good,it stuck in the hearts of many Americans and made a huge impression on them for "good" or for the rest of their lives. Or was it just Madonna that made life a little more interesting & controversial ? The movie didn't make Madonna,Madonna made the movie great. She graced the silver screen and the movie with her magical presence (desperately seeking Susan) and made the movie more than it was,but not more than it could be, perhaps. Who is that girl ? did she just clip her wings and fall from the heavens one day in the 80's ? where does she come from ? ( I suppose I could go on bing and find out) but I love mystery's maybe that's what makes Madonna so "great." & mythical.I suppose arquette isn't the only one "Seeking Susan" or following her. I saw Madonna on a billboard recently & I thought that's not Madonna or at least how I remember her, then I thought what generation x's kids don't know won't hurt them, and a girl has to make a living C. Eastwood once said you either progress or decay in this business. Will the real Madonna please stand up,Reinvented reincarnated mythical timeless. immortal ? who's that girl ? that graced our lives & times with her angelic presence who's that girl ?........ brik w.Madonna gets 6 stars, the movie gets 4 ..

Started out silly, but then got MUCH sillier!
This film was a platform for Madonna to show off her comedic talents, and in that respect it wasn't all bad. I remember watching it at the theater when it was first released in '87, and actually enjoying it. But watching it a second time just now made me wonder how that could be, as the plot was just ridiculous. The animation of Madonna at the very beginning is cute, and the title song ("Who's that Girl?") is actually pretty decent. Griffin Dunne does a good job as the male lead, Loudon Trott. But the rest of the cast and storyline are mostly forgettable. The script reads like a comic book. The best thing about this DVD is the cheap price.

Fun, entertaining screwball 80's comedy
This is a fun well-done silly screwball 80's comedy that stars Madonna. She gets called a bad actress often, but she's done some good work. Watching this 30 years later it's got a classic feeling to it. It's no longer as bad as it was once considered, but has been developed a bit of a cult following. Madonna hits her mark in this, her timing is on, she's got heart. The voice she chooses to use in this might initially feel like the wrong choice, but I quickly got used to it. Trying to picture her use her own voice for this and might not have worked. This is a fun no brainer, entertaining 80's flick. It's not Shakespeare, but if you need something lighthearted, this fits the bill.

screwball comedy that falls flat
Madonna has been in some good films, she's also been in some bad. This is one of the latter. All the characters are such extreme archetypes that there is no sense of reality to draw you in. The "comedy" is all centered on zany overacting which isn't funny. The plot such as it exists is so clichéd that most people could probably tell you how the film will end within the first five minutes. They probably had fun making it but it bombed at the box office because it's just a bit tedious to watch.

madonna's finest film
This is maybe Madonna's finest acting moment and film. Absolutely hilarious crime and romance caper. Not exactly much however in the way of big name stars except Madonna herself. Never a dull moment but exceptionally magical and memorable moments throughout. Could watch this again and again. In my book, a total classic.

Fast action-packed hilarious classic comedy from the 80s!
One of just two of Madonna's films worthy of any critical acclaim - the other being 'Desperately Seeking Susan' of course, and was long overdue when released on DVD.It's hard to believe now that this movie was made twenty years ago! I challenge anyone to watch this, and not feel great afterwards! Absolutely hilarious, fast-paced and full of action! Like the great music Madonna was making at the time, she should have stuck to this genre in movie-making; it suited her talents far better than the turn to which her acting career later took. I suspect both this film and the aforementioned did not go down as well as her later work, due to the fact they were not full of sex and nudity.Another great title for this movie could have been 'Operation Prisoner Shuttle' - an amusing phrase coined in the film; everything in this chaotic and wacky film could be summed up in those three little words!Watch this great classic from the eighties - enjoy it and feel great! This movie would lift anyone out of deep depression, and should be supplied on prescription!Five stars - and no doubt about it!!

loads of 80s fun
written off at the time, this is a huge laugh from start to end with loads of slapstick nonsense, if you can get over madonnas whiney accent at the start then its a great 80s nostalgia trip, loud, bright and fun, plus a superb soundtrack
