Like others say, this is got some benefits of both oil and grease. It is slicker than grease, but doesn't get thrown. On top of using it to get things back together in my engine bay, I use it as my cutting oil for drilling. Why? It sticks, so when drilling underneath a car chassis it will stick to the bit and not fly off. Is it the best for cutting? No (pipe threading oil does wonders for that), but considering you can use it at any angle it's a godsend. Besides the cutting works well for all your usual assembly needs where tolerances are tight and things don't want to slip together readily.
