Hayward SPX3200UNKIT Union Connector Replacement Kit for Select Hayward Pump and Heater

We ordered these as part of a replacement for a cracked outer pump housing for a Hayward Tristar VS pool pump. The factory pump housing has a weak spot at the vertical seam from the forming process near the union. When replacing the pump housing, we needed to replace the unions as well. Two pieces are needed as there is one on either side of the housing. Rather than saving a few dollars on aftermarket parts, we bought the Hayward kit which included the unions and gaskets. Easy replacement and no worries about fitment. Other aftermarket parts run the risk of slight tolerance differences in thread size or inner diameter measurement and can lead to more leaks. It has been a few months and no more leaks or issues. Tip on replacing housing - make sure it is lined up correctly before mating the housing to the pump or you can break the tab on the central port.

When a local pool company installed our Hayward EcoStar pump they shortened the length of the pipe from the 90 degree elbow that comes out of the ground to the inlet of the pump so that it had only 3 inches of length instead of the required 10 inches (minimum). The EcoStar pump had a drive controller that burned out and replacing it is cost prohibitive so I turned the Variable Speed pump into a 2-speed pump now known as a Hayward TriStar since I was able to use most of the parts (pump housing, seal plate, diffuser, impeller, motor support) with a new seal kit. I also left 10.5 inches of (2 inch) piping between the elbow and the inlet. It's for this reason that I ordered this union kit so that I could accommodate the new length of pipe on both the inlet and outlet. This worked out really well. I found it easier to add the 2 inch PVC pipe to the ends of the union kit using some primer and cement and then gently tapping down the pipe into the union ends (but not hard) so as to make sure the pipe is in the furthest it can go. I also made a beveled edge on the PVC pipe using a deburring tool to reduce the amount of turbulence in the flow. I wish the local pool installer did the job right the first time but thankful I was able to find the union kit here on Amazon for half the price from the same local pool store. I ended up doing this twice because I could not get the horizontal & vertical pipes just right, so I made myself a little aid out of wood that I could place under the top pipes, built up the vertical pipe and then cut the pipe to the right length. The aid was something I cobbled together out of scrap wood using pocket screws so it was easy to take apart and use the scraps on other things.

I needed to add a valve to drain my pool automatically, and that meant replacing some plumbing. That plumbing included the pipes going to the filter and the pump. These parents arrived in genuine Hayward packaging, and everything fit perfectly. It is a Good seller with good OEM parts, not Chinese junk.

These are the real deal, not some cheapo China junk that splits open at the seams, spend the extra money if you love your pool.
