I needed a way to record some sounds and noise and have a "record over Time". I searched for a sound meter that RECORDS dB vs TIME STAMP....ie...REAL DATA. I FOUND it for $44 bucks. THIS unit. The SLM-25. If you are too bored, or overwhelmed at SLM-25...stop reading. IF..you are technically sound...no pun intended...KEEP reading. OK...bought the unit b/c it has "recording".....other units just give "max dB"...which is ok...but DATA is better...THIS UNIT gives Data...dB vs time...vs GRAPHICS vs....OMG how can 44 bux be SO COOL. Product: Comes with the unit...sponge top for wind...XLNT zip carrying case....USB cable... instructions (Essential) a 2-bare wire with a plug "wire"....a warranty AND the smallest compact disk you'll ever see....it's so small....like 2 inches...that you might just throw it away... DON'T....it's as much a CD DVR as anything....they just saved on plastic...and shipping width. Installation: Put the "tiny" CD into your CD/DVR reader.....the hole will fit....but you'll think it won't work b/c you've only seen CD's the size of a Bagel...get over it. Click Setup...find it if it doesn't come up...installation....Install... Click on desktop icon... Follow instructions..etc...plug unit in on USB...communication....connect.. Unit is ON when USB connected....OFF when unconnected...but can be turned on unconnected. Screen will show "real time" readouts...when connected.... Set parameters....try 20 readings at 5 seconds...gives like a minute 40 of readings... NOTE: you have to "set parameters" EACH time you record...even if you don't change parameters. Unit will say "rec" when recording...screen "recorder" counts up records...unit says "FULL" when full... You can choose as few as 20 records at one second intervals...up to a ton of records for a ton of time. Click Download for the record recorded...name it...etc.. Damn thing will come up with a "text" listing of your data vs time vs reading number... AND a professional level Line graph of your recording... You can export to Excel or to Text.....I'm using old Excel tech..old laptop...windows Vista.. so Excel was tricky...but do-able. I've routinely stacked data recordings into one Excel spreadsheet to compare "sound" conditions tests. First simple test conclusion...single test. "A Wall can block up to 20- 40 dB of Low E and High E Guitar strings"....82 Hz & 330 Hz. Minor CON drawback.....YOU NEED a Laptop THERE when you record... ie...if you hit record..and disconnect USB....no more record.... SO, you need to take unit...AND laptop to where you want to record sound. Another $41 sound analyzer "Reviewer" said he could "disconnect" after "recording start"....but I'm skeptical.....it's a minor nit...laptops have batteries and are DESIGNED to go anywhere. This product worked AS WELL and BETTER than I thought it would. I now have a "sound analyzer/recorder" for life...at the cost of $44... and cost of 4 AA batteries "whenever".... Lastly: I won't use the "exposed wire" analog item...but I won't throw it away either. - Customer Cool 10/18/19

This is a terrific little sound level meter for the price. I works well; however, the manual is not complete. For example, I have to connect the meter to my Windows 10 PC, open the NoiseLogger Communications Tool, set the parameters, and hold down the On/Off button on the meter while I disconnect the meter from the PC. Then I can move the meter to the location where I want to measure the sound levels. If I don't hold down the On/Off button on the meter while I disconnect the meter from the PC it shuts the meter off and stops recording.

This unit did what it was advertised to do. It does have a threaded tripod connector which is essential and I did use it for a few days, however on the 4th day, I realized the USB cable connector on the device had broken off. It is possible that when I was not around the tripod got knocked over onto the grass, but I was a bit disappointing on how easily it broke and the data I had recorded for the day was inaccessible. I was also a bit confused whether it was operating from the external battery I connected to it, or the ones I had inserted in the device. other than that, the software was fairly easy to use and I would advise anyone purchasing this unit to be very careful with it. I've discovered there an IOS app (NIOSH) recommended by the CDC, so I will be giving that a go instead. Although im not sure if the IOS app can record a full days worth of data like this device does.

Neighbor filed a complaint with animal control about “noisy” geese always disturbing them. Thanks to this excellent piece of equipment we had the documented levels and distance from our lake to their fence line. Animal Control was really impressed!!

The software from the download site would not "connect" with the meter. Installed and reinstalled it on 2 different laptops. Finally drug out a portable CD drive and installed the s/w on the supplied disc and it worked like a charm.

UPDATE: returning item, does not operate as described in operator manual. 1) the auto-off function cannot be disabled though there is a procedure to do this described in the manual: with the meter off, hold the F/S button down and then turn on the meter. This procedure does not work, auto-off will always be on. When the time-out from the last button press comes the meter will turn off. There is a icon on the display to indicate when auto-off is disabled. It will never display. 2) when in the MAX mode, the maximum level received should be held (frozen) on the digital (numeric) display while the bar graph will continue to monitor all levels received. This is not true. The bar graph will freeze along with the digital readout making it impossible to monitor incoming levels in the MAX mode. In MAX mode the numeric display AND the bar graph will only change to indicate a new maximum measured.

Vorab eine Bemerkung zu der ersten Rezession zu diesem Gerät: Man sollte doch bitte sich selbst prüfen ob man auch wirklich in der Lage ist ein technisches Produkt ehrlich und seriös zu bewerten! Kunden welche diese Rezessionen lesen tun dies nicht aus Langeweile, sondern um seriöse Infos für ihre Kaufentscheidung treffen zu können. Und diese Rezession von Highend-Technik am 14. März 2017 ist alles andere als nützlich! Es mangelt dem Rezensenten wohl am technischen Wissen und daher sollte er ein solches, aus meiner Sicht (Techniker mit Baujahr 1947) absolut gutes Premiumgerät unter 50 Euro! (und das obwohl man leider in der Regel aus China sehr oft nur fürchterliche Produkte erhält, meine ganz persönliche Erfahrung und nicht mehr!) nicht schlecht reden. Das Gerät: Lieferung sehr sauber und alles mehrfach verschweißt. Hatte zuvor ein Gerät Made in Germany welches völlig zerzaust, total verkratzt (wohl mal vom Eifelturm gefallen?) und das für ca. 170 Euro! Eher deutscher Schrott! Das wie behauptet wurde, das Gehäuse knarrt ist minimal und ausschließlich am Batteriedeckel zu vernehmen und ist für die Messergebnisse völlig ohne Bedeutung. Jedes Kunststoffgehäuse, auch für 500 Euro ist nicht taubstumm! Also völliger Unsinn. Das angebliche herumwackeln der Batterien ist nicht nachvollziehbar. Die Batterielebensdauer ist nicht die Beste. Eine 24 Stundenmessung mit den Originalbatterien und die Batterien waren bei 1.2 Volt. Das ist sehr mickrig! Mit neuen Premiumbatterien wird es vielleicht etwas besser, oder man versucht es mit Accus. Das Gerät ist kein Monster, sondern hat eine gute Größe und Form. Bedientasten wie üblich bei DB-Messgeräten. Sehr angenehmes schwarzes Gehäuse (sieht durchaus teurer aus als es ist). Das Gejammer von einer angeblich zu kleinen und daher Qualitätsgeminderten Mini-CD disqualifiziert jeden der so etwas aussagt, schließlich ist dies eine Norm-CD mit gerade einmal 1,4 MB Belegung. Warum also einen 700 MB Rohling verwenden? Eine Lachplatte! Die Software ist im guten Mittelfeld. Die Auswertung gestaltet sich allerdings doch etwas mühsam, da man etwaiges Zoomen (spreizen der Zeitachse) nur per Menü und mit festen Vorgaben erreichen kann. Nervt bei langen Aufzeichnungen doch ungemein. Hier sollte der Hersteller tätig werden! So etwas wird in der heutigen Zeit mit dem Cursor markiert. Es wurde bemängelt und als Zumutung dargestellt, dass man zum Einstellen der Parameter das Gerät ausschließlich an einem PC betreiben kann. Der Rezensent war wohl mit diesem Gerät etwas überfordert, wie sonst kommt er zu solch einer unqualifizierten Meinung? Es gibt um die hundert Parametereinstellungen für die Zeitachse: 1 sec. Bis 60 sec. 1 min bis 60 min. 1 Std. bis 24 Std., das ist sehr, sehr komfortabel und in diese Preisklasse nicht Standard. Ein großes Lob an den Hersteller!!! Solche Mengen an Einstellmöglichkeiten können sie niemals auf dem Gerät in seriöser Form darstellen. Zum anderen, hat man die Einstellung am PC vorgenommen und auf dem Gerät gespeichert, benötigt man den Blechtrottel (auch PC genannt) in der Regel nicht mehr, sondern erst bei Auswerten der Zeitachsen und dies geht auf dem Display ohnehin nicht. Ein Manko hat das Ganze aber doch: Hat man das Gerät per PC konfiguriert und gestartet, läuft die Messung automatisch bis sie später nach Anschluss an den PC gestoppt wird. So weit so gut. Schaltet man das Gerät allerdings aus Versehen während der Messung ab, so wird die Messung sofort gestoppt und kann nicht noch einmal gestartet werden. Erst nach einer erneuten Parameterübergabe wird eine neue Messung freigegeben, hier müsste man einen Laptop bei sich haben um eine neue Messung zu starten falls dies unterwegs passiert. Ist nicht gut gelöst, aber andere Herstelle haben noch viel schlimmeres für ihre Kunden bereit. Es sind noch zwei Klinkenbuchsen für DC und AC vorhanden und ebenfalls ein kurzes Klinkenkabel mit zwei Adern von denen ich bis Dato noch nicht weiß wofür. Als Kopfhöreranschluss taugen sie augenscheinlich nicht. Hier muss man den Hersteller fragen. Ergebnis: Ein aus meiner Sicht sehr, sehr gutes DB-Messgerät zu einem super Preis. Nach dem Testen von acht verschiedenen Geräten anderer Hersteller (Preisklasse zwischen 90 und 350 Euro) ist das für mich das Beste. Ein großes Lob dem Hersteller und seinen Technikern, endlich mal etwas von Praktikern für Praktiker gemacht. Hier kann der Interessierte beruhigt zugreifen. Nachtrag am 4.10.2017 Hatte ursprünglich behauptet, die einzige Möglichkeit die Recordeinstellung nur über einen Blechtrottel(PC oder Laptop) sei unproblematisch, muss ich widerrufen!!! Nach ca. 50 geplanten Messungen konnte nur etwa die Hälfte ausgführt werden weil entweder vergessen wurde die Parameter auf das Gerät zu spielen, oder es waren Sponantmessungen. Man kann doch nicht wegen jedem Pups erst in die Firma oder Wohnung fahren um das Gerät zu programmieren. Als Messgerät ohnen Daten aufzeichnung ist das Gerät immernoch asl sehr gut zu bezeichnen, als Speichergerät eher eine Sauerei!!! Bin total frustriert!!! Vergißt man wenn man aus dem Haus geht die Recordparameter auf das Gerät zu übertragen, oder man hat das Gerät beis sich und möchte oder soll plötzlich eine gespeicherte Messung vornehmen hat man die A... Karte weil es keine Startmöglichkeit für die Aufnahme gibt. Des Wahnsinns fette Beute für jeden arbeitssamen Mitbürger!!! Hatte eine recht gute Korrespondenz mit dem Anbieter, wollten das Problem mit der Fabrik besprechen. Bis Dato aber totales Schweigen.Man hätte durchaus eine aktuallisierte Firmware den Kunden anbieten können. Hätte man tun können, tut man aber nicht! Sehr bedauerlich!!! Warum versaut ein Hersteller ein so gutes Produkt um es dann mit einer saumäßigen Software nahzu unbrauchbar zu machen? Wer also oft die Datenaufzeichnung benötigt sollte hier die Finger lassen.
