Works as expected
This item was much bigger than I expected, but that's my own fault for not reading the specs carefully. There is too much space between the fry basket and the outer edges. I have fried both chicken wingettes and fries in it and both ended up outside the basket. It could be that I used too much oil. The other thing I didn't like is that it takes between 10 and 15 minutes to heat up. I don't fault the product at all since it is a large and has more oil to heat up than my previous one that was half the size.

Powerful!
Whoa! this thing gets hot! I actually overcooked my first batch of boneless chicken breast after frying for only 8-9 minutes @ 375F. The next batch I fried for about 5 minutes @350F and it came out great. The next thing I tried were frozen french fries @ 375F and they were ready in 3 minutes.Other reviewers stated that this fryer doesn't get hot enough, those reviewers must have an defective unit...The only thing that sucks is the amount of oil required, which is a little over an gallon. Another thing is transferring the oil and cleaning this machine. You should buy an stainless steel oil container + filter, or get a stainless steel funnel + filter to transfer and preserve the oil.

If you fry, might as well be deep fry.
I never thought I’d need a deep fryer, the mess, grease on everything, hard to clean, etc. I finally broke down and bought this Hamilton Beach unit. I got tired of so so limp French fries, not so pretty fried chicken, and the mess that goes with it. So far we have fried, egg rolls, jalapeños, cheese sticks, burritos, taquitos and of course French fries. I don’t endorse fried food, but if you want good egg rolls and chicken and fries you need a deep fryer. This holds a little more than a gallon of oil and the basket is huge. Clean up is a breeze, the tank lifts out so you can dispose of the oil, the electric coil and the controls are one piece so you can clean it easily. You set the temperature you want a green light comes on when it’s ready, so no guess work. We could use the oil for 3to4 uses, after that dispose of it. We use peanut oil, it gets to temp quick and is very clean. I highly recommend this unit, but be careful it’s addictive. Lol.
