I work in nursing and yes it would be appropriate.  This silver gel is wonderful can and should be used with any wound, scratch, sore of any kind. And is ideal for people and animals.

What is the difference between this one and the one with aloe?

Natasha - thanks for asking. Our Silver Gel with Aloe is more soothing by nature and serves well as a first aid product for burns, minor cuts/scrapes and other irritations. Besides the obvious difference of having Aloe added to it, the Silver Gel with Aloe is also pH Balanced and less potent at 30ppm; whereas, this Extra Strength Silver gel contains 35ppm of silver. Even though its pH is more acidic (around 5-6), it is better suited for wounds, topical applications on more acidic areas of the body, and is used by many including estheticians as a facial and cleanser used in conjunction with a beauty regimen to help with acne causing bacteria among other uses. If you haven't picked up Dr. Pedersen's book Silver Solution: A New Fighting Chance (I think it is on Amazon) that has some other great uses for silver gels and an interesting side note; he is actually our product formulator and helped develop both of these gels. Would this help a cartilage piercing heal faster?

I would think it will heal any wound on the surface of the skin.   If it is very deep and you can't clean it thoroughly then it may not get down in there good enough.   I clean my wounds with colloidal silver liquid first to flush them out,  dry them and then put the gel on, cover it with a sterile abd or gauze pad and secure it in place twice a day.   I am allergic to most topical antibiotics so this is best for me.   If you have an infection in yours,  see a doctor first.   I really like this gel for all kinds of wounds and skin problems.    Works great for me!
