The 'polished nickel shiny' version attracts a magnet, though not as much as iron probably would. It does not appear to be plated, as determined by grinding away the surface on the back. Perhaps it is 'nickel bronze' which contains enough magnetic nickel or 'nickel aluminum bronze' which has nickel and often iron. Would be nice to see a clearer description. The hook is very elegant and has a nice polish and heft to it. I will probably buy more of them.
