Q: What does "lug" mean?

"Lug" in the description is referring to the connection point on the bottom of the button. If you look at the gold part in the lower right of the picture, this is what they are talking about. We recommend you use .110" quick disconnects to connect the wire to this button.

Q: I'm building a controller from scratch. What panel thickness works best with these?

I'm not sure but I'm using the HRAP 4 Kai maybe you can look it up and compare also I'm pretty sure they're standard in most Japanese candy cabs

Q: Do these work for arcade1up games?

No, they are too short for arcade 1 up.
