Amazing Columbia Boots! Soles dropfoot! Second pair!
These lightweight (200 grams! each) are amazing! This is my second pair. Waterproof, warm, great sole, traction in snow. I can wear them yearround. These are essential to me as I have numb feet and dropfoot. Keep my feet at a 90 degree. The solid sole and ankle support allows me better walking and driving. The downfall of the last pair was some fabric lace loops broke. After much use the boot developed some cracks in the bend area. However, I'm glad Columbia is still making this model. I'm going to buy another pair to put away. I don't need the wider width but I did remove the overly thick insole. The boots fit great without them!

A Pretty Good Snow Boot at this Price
Previously I bought the Columbia Men's NEWTON RIDGE PLUS II WATERPROOF Hiking Boot for hiking, but realized they don't work so well in snow deeper than the collar, so I bought these high-top boots for snowy, colder conditions. Size - I normally wear a 10.5 wide, but ordered these in an 11 and 11 wide, and found the 11 wide to be the best fit with thick wool socks. Waterproofness - Some reviews have sited this and other Columbia boots I looked at as not waterproof (despite be sold as such, as these are). I tested the boot by submerging the boot up to the tongue lace loop in water for two hours. Note that this is a rather tough test. At the end of the test, the right boot was damp on the inside around the lower portion of the tongue. I set the boots out to dry over night and in the morning found that left boot was also damp in the same spot. My estimate is that these boots would do okay for typical exposure to snow, wet vegetation, and brief walk through a shallow stream (especially if the water remains below the tongue). Note that the tongue is made of fabric, presumably with Gortex type liner material; the collar is also fabric and the balance of the boot appears to all synthetic and should be waterproof. I plan to treat the fabric areas with silicone to help further waterproof them. Overall - The construction looks to be high quality and the sole has a low durometer (soft) rubber that should be good for traction at low temperatures. I like the inclusion of a D-loop at the bottom of the tongue to hook gaiters to. At a ~$75 price tag, a pretty good boot.

Get 1 size up. They run a little small.
I have the womens version of these boots and they're awesome. I've had the same pair for 5+ years and they're still in perfect condition. I frequently recommend these boots to others. They're a very good value and it's simple to switch out the insoles when you need added comfort. In my experience, finding a good quality wide width boot is difficult. I'm glad that these work for the person I got them for. Normally the wearer of these boots is an 11W, but I got size 12W based on the comments of other reviewers. I'm really glad that I did, the 12W fits them like an 11W would. I would also recommend going up a size. Highly recommended, especially when it's on sale. If that opinion changes I'll be back to update.
