Large display, accurate, easy to use (edited)
I'm a journeyman machinist, retired, doing stuff part time. I ordered many different digital calipers, and like the large displays these have, even better than my mitutoyos. Be warned: I've returned several calipers that only have large fonts for the first or second digit, then the rest are small...this is confusing and negates the large font advantage. I also like the front-button controls, since they're visible next to the display, and I won't accidentally hit them, like some units with the buttons on the underside of the calipers. I also like the buttons that have one function: on/off, zero, inch/mm/fraction. This does display fractions but not a big plus for me, and I wish they would round the fractions to 64ths of an inch, not 128ths. What value is knowing a part is 77/128" anyway? The battery compartment ease of access is a plus. Some units require a screwdriver to access the compartment, which is a pain, especially if you're in the middle of a job and don't have a tiny screwdriver handy. The mechanics are smooth, accurate, and have inside/outside measurements, depth, and step, and all seem to be accurate, although I'll calibrate the measurement I'm doing with precision calibration "donuts", or gauge blocks, if the measurement needs to be super accurate. The battery lasts a long time if you remember to shut it off after use, and a good tip is to lock the carriage when turning if off for the day, and storing it in a drawer, where it might be triggered on, if it's jarred with opening/shutting the drawer, or other action. If you're new to using calipers, practice your measurements on a calibrated material....dowel, gauge block, etc. Your hand strength on the carriage should become uniform, and should only take a light touch to get accurate results. Erratic, or too much pressure during measurements, especially round objects, will create errors. I could go on but hopefully there's some useful information here. I love these calipers. BTW, spend the money and get good quality, stainless units, not plastic, unless you're really strapped for cash. These will last years. "Buy the best you can afford and cry only once; buy inferior calipers and cry every time you try to use them." Nothing worse than cutting a dozen parts, then find they're scrap because the crappy calipers weren't accurate. These are very good calipers. (Edited for latest calipers). For some reason, they modified the battery compartment to require using a worthless undersized screwdriver to remove a tiny screw to replace the battery. Inconvenient for sure. The old ones worked fine for the battery compartment, so this is a downgrade, and they never disclosed that they added a screw to remove it. Returning this one to get one that doesn't need tool to replace the battery.

Auto on and auto off with fractions. It is exactly what I needed.
Edit: These are accurate to one or two 10 thousandths of an inch, based on checking them on a very expensive gauge block set. It is surprising they are so close at a few different fractional measurements. There is a clear film on the screen that is good enough to think it isn't there. A screw fell on the screen and put a small hairline crack in it, so I decided to see if it was a film. It pulled off and has a great lens under it, plus the crack is less noticeable without the plastic in place. It makes me mad that it cracked so soon, but that is one of the reasons I didn't buy an expensive pair. They are good enough to buy a second set to have on hand. My HF calipers were decent and were accurate enough for basic machining, fabrication, and reloading, but after quite a few years they have started to randomly fail. Brand name calipers aren't worth risking where they may get dropped or damaged, especially when these were a 5th of the price. It has only been a week, but so far these do everything I wanted and have been repeatable. I'm picky about tools and appreciate quality tools but can only justify the price for top brands when there is a major difference in function or quality. Power tools and larger machines are worth it but even if I bought name brand calipers, I would still need a few pairs for general work and at the plasma table where they get wet and covered in dust so there would still be a need for lower priced options. The screen seems a bit soft and others said they were scratched. It appears there could be a clear film on the lens, but I can't be certain, so I haven't scratched at the edge to see if it is a film, for fear of damaging the lens if there isn't. They are clear, but not as clear or glossy as the cheap HF pairs. I figured with wear it might become more apparent.

Works well but battery will drain even when off.
This tool works fine. I am happy it has 3 different settings for measurements which I find I do use. The only negative I have for this tool is that the battery will drain even when the device is off. The case has a spot to keep the battery which is nice because I now remove the battery when I am not using it. It is simple enough to slide the battery back in place when I use it so it is not really in the way but it would be nice to not have to do this. It would of gotten 5 stars except for this issue.

Keeps calibration at start-up!
Excellent caliper. It turns on automatically whenever I move it and it keeps the calibration, i.e. no need resetting it after turning on.

Love it!... this inexpensive caliper works as well as models costing 7 times more
After reading dozens of reviews on different calipers ranging from $20-$140, I finally decided on the approach of buying the least expensive caliper with no flaws flagged in review (hence this purchase). I verified its accuracy by measuring various drill bit sizes... worked perfectly. The action of closing and opening the jaws feels very smooth (this was called out in many reviews). So... bottom line... save yourself a TON of money and buy this one (vs more expensive models). ps - the only downside of this one is that, like all caliper devices, very slowing drain the battery even when its "off". This type of power "leak" is common with electrical circuits. So, if you plan on letting is set for months without use, you can save the 50 cent battery by taking out the battery. Again, reviews on this problem show that all calipers have this problem. I raise the issue here so that you don't think your caliper is broken if you pick it up after 6-12 months of no use and don't interpret a lack of response from the device as it being somehow broken (simply needs a new battery).

It measures up to my standards!
I pitched this to replace a unit that I had for years. It came with a cracked bezel. I sent it back and received a new unit promptly. I have used it for several months and love the feel of it compared to the previous unit that had. I also love that it is pretty much waterproof.
