While the sound is warm and "musical", the controls and Android OS lag are infuriating. I've been reading reviews of the Onkyo DP-X1A for a while and decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did. My music library is about 100Gb of various formats from FLAC to moderate bitrate Mp3. I use unbalanced Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones for most of my listening. These cans have served me well and have a nice musical sound to them. So far, the Onkyo is a better player for my uses. Here's what I've found. Sound: The FiiO has a really good default sound. The Onkyo, with a bit of EQ fiddling (which is easy and fun) sounds as good or better. It has more definition on the high end and is less punchy, but the EQ lets you do what you wish with the sound. The wireless on the Onkyo performs on par with modern wireless devices. I find the FiiO to be slow and buggy. Features: 2x Micro-SD Slots on both. The FiiO implementation is better as there really isn't any way to inadvertently eject the media. The Onkyo has the spring in/spring out openings for the cards which exposes them to inadvertent ejection. No case comes with the Onkyo. The FiiO includes 2 cases. Both have a USB charging cable. OS: The OS implementation is night and day. The FiiO lagged every few seconds and was frustrating to use. The Onkyo is smooth and near instantaneous. The controls are also very intuitive and easy to use. Android also allows you to run pretty much whatever else you may need. Music Player Software: The FiiO is sluggish to scan media. I often had to tell it to update after adding new albums. The Onkyo is snappy and just "works" without any direction. Because of the lag on the FiiO, I have to give a strong nod to the Onkyo here. It works the way I expect a modern device to work. I also prefer the design of the interface. Both are slow to upload too when connected via USB. It's much faster to load the cards from a reader attached to a computer. Neither had a preponderance of bloatware installed. Form Factor: It's a larger unit, which is OK for me. My eyesight isn't what it used to be and I prefer the larger screen. FiiO all in/out jacks are on the bottom. Onkyo in/out on the top and micro USB on the bottom. This is a preferential wash. Both volume wheels are nice. The control layout of the Onkyo is more to my liking. Onkyo uses a combined 2.5mm jack for line in / out with a software switch. FiiO has a dedicated jack for each. Battery: Too early to tell. They both last a 4 to 5 hour flight but they aren't the most battery friendly devices on the planet. Time will tell the tale. Other: The FiiO can be used as a USB DAC for computer out. The Onkyo can't. Hope this helps with a decision. First off, I have had no issues with this seller. The sound quality on this item is excellent. I have been disappointed with the ease of use for this item. As many others have indicated the dedicated ONKYO software to load songs from your PC to the device is sadly lacking unless you have a massive amount of time to work with it. The onboard music app leaves quite a bit to desire as it is difficult to catalog music and find it as needed. I have had issues with the Bluetooth dropping the signal (which seems to be an issue with most Bluetooth devices) and would not rely on The Bluetooth functionality for parties or gigs. This device works well when plugged in directly into the line in Jack on my Nissan. However, it does not show the name of the song playing when using the line in functionality. I don’t have this issue when using Bluetooth in my car but do you have greater issues with the songs cutting out. This may be a result of the Nissan technology and not anything to do with the device. The line out function works perfectly Great when connected with the stereo or sound system. The android operating system is slow which makes this device less desirable ( and not reliable for me ) when I need to change the music lineup or switch songs on the fly during playback. Overall I think you will be happy with the quality of the sound if you’re using it simply to listen to music on your headphones.

I've been using a FiiO X5 3rd generation since it was released about 2 years ago. While the sound is warm and "musical", the controls and Android OS lag are infuriating. Excellent sound not so great operating system could use some improvements with functionality

Very poor battery life makes this product virtually useless to me despite its great sound and versatility.
I am sorry Onkyo, I so wanted to love this player because of its great sound but because of its poor battery life I have to rate it as pretty well useless. Despite the battery rated at 16 hrs , right out of the box in Jan 2018, with blue tooth and wifi off, I get only 2 hours of life.

WAS very satisfied
Upgraded from a USB DAC. Having full Android is great. Tidal Master tracks sound amazing on this. UPDATE: The main board died after 15 months of use. Onkyo had me send it to a repair center, which charged $65 to inform me that undisclosed parts are no longer available and that the unit could not be fixed. They are charging me another $28 to ship the broken unit back. I reached back out to Onkyo to see if they would be willing to provide a better customer experience. Will update if they respond. UPDATE: Onkyo ultimately responded that I am out of luck. I don’t buy Onkyo products anymore.

The DP-X1A is more Intimate than the DP-X1
I also own the DP-X1, and now I have this DP-X1A. They did something to the sound on the DP-X1A. Seems at first like the sound is in the background until you turn the volume up. It sounds warmer, quieter, darker, cleaner, tighter, or something, but very clear. It seems to have a warmer body, and a more defined bass. My Senheiser HD 700 cans sound warmer with this update. The DP-X1 was colder. Overall, I like. It will scare you when you first turn it on, cause it gets super hot. I think because of all the downloading updates, and everything causes it to get hot. The DP-X1 is very clear also, but seems colder, and not as quiet. 9/1/2018 Ok my smallest headphone broke on this unit, so I attempted to contact Onkyo. They gave me a service number, and I sent it in to service. Service received it and said, "your unit is a japanes unit". I'm thinking, I purchased this on Amazon. They said, in order for them to fix it will cost 450.00 dollars, and if you do not want us to fix it, they will have to charge me $15 to send it back to me. Luckily, I paid for a 3-year Square Trade Warrant. Square trade will refund me the $15.00, and fix my unit. They said that I am also covered for accidental drops, etc., to the unit. If your serial number starts off with a 9, then it is a Japanese model. If your serial number starts off with a 2, then is is a U.S. model. Japanese models are not warranted by OnkyoUSA. Good luck! The seller should let us know if we are purchasing a U.S. or Japanese model. My rating dropped down to 3 stars, cause the vendor should tell us that it is not covered by a U.S. warranty.

The player has the most amazing sound it’s well made and better than expected, the best though was the fantastic experience I had with the seller my first unit was faulty and they had another on the way within minutes of notification not only that they refunded me in full for any additional cost of incurred. Really appreciate their service would certainly buy from them again

今までAndroidの携帯端末で聞いていた私でしたが、 HA-FW01の購入に合わせて再生機器もグレードを上げようと思いDP-X1Aを買いました。 結果大満足。もう携帯には戻れません。 特徴: ・高音質が手のりサイズ DACとアンプを2基ずつ搭載しているのにも関わらずバッテリーがかなり長持ちします。 外出先でのハイファイオーディオ再生に特化した製品となっております。 ・話題のバランス接続に対応 様々なポータブルプレイヤーが出てくる中でやっぱり注目した部分がこれです。 私の場合はHA-FW01を持っていたので、バランス接続にとても興味がありました。 HA-FW01の付属ケーブルはアンバランス3.5mmなので、使用するにはケーブルを交換しなければなりません。 もし、バランス接続をお考えならまずケーブルを探すことをオススメします。 以外と製品によっては特殊な端子を使用している事もあり、確認したほうが良いです。 高出力に対応させるならBalanced、曲の特徴を楽しみたい方はACG駆動を使用してみてください。 ・使い勝手の良いAndroid 買う決めてになった要因の一つです。 普段からAndroid端末で音楽を聴いているのであれば迷う事なく操作できると思います。 また、初めからGoogle Play 200GB MicroSDXC 90MB/s Premium Edition を使用していますが、問題なく使えています。大容量でファイル転送が比較的早いのでオススメです。 サンディスク SanDisk Ultra 200GB MicroSDXC Micro SDカード 90MB/s Premium Edition Class10 UHS-1 CardSDXC変換アダプタ付 [並行輸入品 ] ・バッテリー消費 バッテリー時間は16時間と書いてあります。ただし、これは（96 kHz／24 bit FLAC アンバランス再生時）とメーカーのスペック表記に書かれていますので、 当然USB-DACやバランス接続、DSD等の高音質ファイルを再生すればバッテリー持続時間が落ちる可能性があります。 特にneutron、USB Audio Player PRO等は音質が良い代わりにバッテリー消費が高いので16時間も持ちません。 私の場合、USB-DAC(バッテリー駆動、アンバランス)を繋いで約10～12時間程持ちます。 再生ファイルは主にmp3とflacです。 通勤・通学程度の使用なら問題ありませんが、連続して長時間使用する場合は気をつけてください。 ・機内モードを活用せよ(standaloneモードの代わり) 普通に使用しているとバッテリー消費が気になるときが多いです。 standaloneモードが搭載されており、スクリーンが消灯するとともに電波を無効化するので ノイズや消費電力を抑えてくれるのですが、再度スクリーンをつけるとstandaloneモードが無効になるので またスクリーンを消灯させるときに手動で有効にしなければならず面倒な時があります。 そんなときは機内モードにするとstandaloneモードと同じように電波を発しないモードになるので 手軽に使えるようになり、外出先でもかなりバッテリーが長持ちしてくれます。 ・アプリの検討も 最初から搭載されているOnkyo HF Playerの機能や操作性では恐らく満足できない人が居ると思います。 その場合はneutron、Usb Audio Player PRO(特にUSB-DACを使用する場合)等のアプリを別途購入することも検討しなければなりません。 ・タグの文字化け 使用しているファイルによっては文字化けがあるかもしれません。 過去に実際あったのはRocket Music Playerで文字化けがなかったのが、Onkyo HF Playerでは文字化けするという現象です。 Windows専用のアプリケーションMp3tagをインストールしてオプションを開き、タグ、Mpegの項目を選択し 読込はID3v1,ID3v2にチェック済み 書込はID3v2にチェック済み、ID3v2.3 UTF-16を選択済み 削除はID3v1,APEにチェック済み である事を確認してもう一回タグを書き込み直すと解決しました。 ・アップサンプリングに関する問題 USB-DACで使用した際、USB Audio Player PROでアップサンプリングを使用すると 周波数が指定できずに最大値(768khz)まで自動でアップサンプリングされるため端末の性能が追い付かず聴くに堪えない状態になります。 Neutronなら、再生周波数を指定できるので96k位なら再生できますが、それ以上だとたまにプチプチ再生になったりして楽しめません。 アップサンプリングに関して再生に問題なかったのはOnkyo HF Playerのみでした。HF Playerは最大384kまで対応しています。 MojoはDSDや768khzの再生ができますが、それはあくまで音源が高い周波数の場合に再生できるのであって アップサンプリングが絡んでくると別の要因が絡んでくるので実質的にはHF Playerで384khzのアップサンプリングが理想的です。 ただ、これはあくまでUSB-DACを使用した場合での話です。使用しない場合はHF Playerは192kまでしかアップサンプリングできません。 ちなみにアップサンプリングしない場合は再生に問題ありません。USB Audio Player PRO(USB-DAC使用)でDSD 128fs(5.6MHz)が再生できます。 *Chord Mojo はDSD再生可能でかつ、PCM変換時の768kHz再生に対応していますがアプリが対応していないのでDSD 256fsは実質的に再生不可能です。(追記:スペック表によればDSD256fs 11.2mhzに対応しており、HF Playerでは再生可能です(PCM 352.8Khzにダウンサンプリングされています)。しかしながらUSB Audio Player PROのサポートされている周波数は384kが最大なので、それに対応した5.6MHz DSD128fsまでが実質的に使用可能な形式です。DSD128fsはUSB Audio Player PROで再生できましたが、DSD256fsに関しては実際にDSD再生モードを変えたりしてみても、再生できませんでした。DSDが初めてでよくわからない人はhttp://soundfort.hatenablog.com/entry/2016/08/27/120000 を参照してみてください。) *384k/24bitが最大のサポートされている周波数です。USB Audio Player PROのアップサンプリングで 768khzでも一応音が出たのはびっくりしました(USB-DAC使用)。再生途中でグリッチが発生しますが... なお、Chord Mojo(USB-DAC)をDP-X1Aで使用したレビューも投稿する予定なので もし気になる方がいらっしゃいましたら是非見てみてください。

その後、更に２時間エージングを行い、ハイレゾ・ＭＰ3・ＡＬＡＣなどの再生を行いました。 なにしろ音が繊細で奥行き感が素晴らしい！（イコライザーをＯＦＦで使用しています。） 肝心の操作無反応・無音状態などは一切起きていません。 この値段でこの音質。おそらく他に代わる物は無いのでは、、、。 シェアは圧倒的にＳＯＮＹで、音作りでも長年蓄積した物があると感じますが、 原音を忠実に再生する機器として、同価格帯では他に代わる物が無い、そう思います。 このＤＰ-Ｘ1Ａを試してみてはいかがでしょうか。 【過去のレビュー】 セットアップ直後、標準プレーヤーでの再生中に設定を弄ると無音状態になったり、反応しないことがあります。 この現象は交換前も同じでした。（交換前の現象は過去のレビューを参照ください） もしや、、またもや不良品？と一瞬思いましたが、ここは冷静に、、、。 事前に購入したエージング音源を入れて約1時間放置プレイ。 （ノードスト システムチューニング＆セットアップ用ディスクNordost TD1） その後、購入済みのハイレゾ音源を再生し、設定変更を試みると、、、。 おかしな現象は起きませんでした。 音質については使用するヘッドホンに大きく依存しますので評価は簡単ではありませんが、 アンバランス接続でのamazon music同士の比較では、xperia Z4を大きく凌ぎます。 しかし、、、しかしですよ？ 説明書を隅から隅まで読みましたが、何処にもエージング（慣らし）が必要だとは記載がありません。 音質向上のためのエージングなら分かるのですが操作に関わる部分も必要だなんて、、、？ もしやこれは仕様ではなく、ま・さ・か・の、2回続けて不良品を引き当てたのか、、、？ amazon プライムからの購入ですので1ヶ月は返品可能です。 もう少し弄り倒して様子を見てみようと思います。 ※過去のレビュー※ 返品しました（☆1つ） 一昨日届いて早速初期設定を終え、ハイレゾ音源を購入・ダウンロードし、試聴開始。 同時に購入した Pioneer ヘッドホン PREMIUM SOUNDシリーズ 密閉型/オーバーイヤー/ハイレゾ音源対応/バランス接続対応/折りたたみ式 ブラック SE-MHR5 【国内正規品】 の使用です。 ハイレゾ収集に励もうと思ったのも束の間、はっきりとしたノイズが発生。 その後デジタルフィルターの切り替えをすると音がブルブルと震える現象が起きました。 ヘッドホンのＡＣＧ出力を切り替えても同じ現象が発生。一旦再生を止めても約30秒間無音・操作不能状態です。 翌日、同じ現象が繰り返されるか確認すると、今度は無音状態が約30秒間続きました。 デジタルフィルターを１秒ごとに３回程切り替えすると、切替自体も受け付けなくなります。 大変残念ですがハズレを引いたと諦め、先ほど返品・交換申請をしました。 ２回続けてハズレは無いと思いますので、「今度こそ！」という思いです。 到着次第に再レビューしたいです。

While its a bit chunkier than Ipod or other such audio devices it's well worth it. Sound quality is amazing and its ability to play every sound codec and not just 1 or 2 is the main reason I bought this little beast. Good work Onkyo!

音は全然文句はありません、むしろ良いと思いますが中古で購入したで何となくわかってたんですけど電池が減りすぎです、中古なら電池状態の説明も欲しかったです、、、
