Bound for Danger: Hardy Boys Adventures, Book 13

I almost gave it two stars, but it would be inaccurate to say "I didn't like it" but there are some problems with this installment.The boys investigate the basketball team around some suspicions of Principal Gerther. Of course, he tells them nothing in advance to help them out and, though he explains it later, his reasoning is a little weak.There is some good: The character of Frank and Joe is established by now and this book is consistent with it and even enhances it. We get a good idea about Frank through his interest in the singing group. Also, the plot revolves around school and so is readily accessible to the school age readers. The wrap up is neat, even if the plot is convoluted, with one exception.I like that the brothers exercise safe driving. There is a scene where, because Frank is driving, he asks Joe to look at the message on his phone. This has been featured in the series all along.On the exception side: No resolution or mention of Joe's girlfriend. That could have been taken care of in as little as a sentence. There wasn't much mystery though a few surprises.Here's why I considered a two star, or even a straight one star: The things that happen in the plot are inappropriate for younger readers. Maybe for young adults who want a quick read, but this is definitely not something I would let a nine, ten or 11 year old read. It is too violent for that age.

Perfect gift

Purchased for y grand sons to read to them. The Hardy Boys adventures were read to me as a youngster and I have many memories of them. I hope my grand sons will enjoy them as I did
