Why usb c to usb a? the cable provided has usb c connector at the keyboard end and usb a at the computer end. why not usb c at both ends?

Probably because the rest of the computer industry hasn’t moved completely to usb c. USB A is a highly robust connector going on 24 or so years. The USB C connector though fast has been known to lose how well it holds into the receptacle after awhile. USB A is also still the most common connector thus making it the most compatible.

How can i program the backlights to display my own rgb sequence?

Unfortunately with the Keychron K4 you are unable to program your own colors or pattern. You can select from some preset patterns or a specific color using a key on the keyboard.

What's giving you that message? Windows or the display itself? Doesn't sound like windows... If so, Google the message with the model of your display. Probably many other people have had this problem.

Are the switches hot swappable?

No, on this keyboard you can’t hot swap. It’s a good keyboard but it’s not what your looking for if you want to change out keys.
