How To Defend Yourself in 3 Seconds (or Less!): Self Defence Secrets You NEED to Know!

Incredibly Useful
As anyone reading this knows there are a lot of self-defense books out there and many are kindle books. Many of them are good, some are very good. But most of them share a basic flaw: you can be trained to the teeth in the martial arts and still find that your brain goes into reboot mode when you're actually attacked. I have been studying martial arts since I was 10 years old but that couldn't, or at least didn't save me from being knifed in the back and nearly dying years ago. This book approaches self-defense from the standpoint of a clear understanding of our own human nature and our own instinctive responses to danger. It is incredibly detailed for a short book and offers very simple, very easily followed directions on how to change your attitude toward aggressive encounters and how to develop a nearly instinctive, safe, legal response to attack. I'm not saying don't try to improve yourself in the martial arts. I've been doing that for nearly forty years. But this wonderful book should be the very first thing you read if you have any concerns about defending yourself in the real world where the knives are not made out of rubber and the swords aren't made out of wood. Chances are you're going to stumble into something someday. And that fight or attack will be over very quickly. This book can show you how to respond in a fraction of a second with an effective and legal defense. I cannot think of another book, other than "The Fence" that is as practically useful as this gem. Thanks, Phil We all owe you for this one.

Nearly a completely useful book!
This book is a great, great beginner's self-defense book. The tips are both easy to implement and easy to practice with a partner. I'm new to the self-defense community but I'm looking forward to reading it a few times, just to ingrain the principles in my mind. The only cons I noticed were a few spelling and grammar errors, which don't really have much to do with the book's effectiveness. However, i am kind of wondering why people's faces are blurred out in the pictures though. Lol.

Quick and Effective
Longtime martial artist and author Phil Pierce has put together a effective book on how to defend oneself in 3 seconds or less. This book is a definite help to one who has no martial art experience but can also be an effective review to one who has experience. As explained by the author your best bet when faced with an unexpected, unprovoked attack is to flee if possible. Though it is the most effective it is not always the first choice as running away from trouble is viewed in society as cowardly. The tactics in this book are for when you have to defend yourself quickly , like in three seconds. There is plenty of useful advice concerning awareness and preparedness, protecting your head and defense from the ground after falling. There are common street attacks illustrated such as choke, bear hug, attack from behind and lapel grab. In todays society one can become a victim at any time, having some self defense knowledge can be the difference between life or death or serious injury. You can't go wrong in reading and using this book, give it top your loved ones and help them be prepared. Recommended.

At best this is only a fair book on the topic of self-defense. There are numerous better books listed on Amazon on this topic.
As someone who has been into numerous martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Wrestling, Boxing, Combatives, and Defensive Tactics etc.) and weapon arts (Kenjutsu, Wakizashi-Jutsu, Tanto-Jutsu, Combat shooting) for longer than I care to remember, I am always seeking more information which might improve my skills. The title of this book is catchy, “How to Defend Yourself in 3 seconds or less” by Phil Pierce; unfortunately, it is not a very good book.Positive points:This is not to say this text did not have some valuable tips, which is why I gave it three stars instead of one star. Some of these good points include: an easy 1, 2, and 3 approach, good basic awareness information, simple and easy to learn basic striking techniques with large photographs, information on how to be prepared and good target selection for self-defense.Negative points:I really have a thing about how to write “how-to-do” books, having written more than 50 training manuals myself. Sadly, this book is missing two VERY IMPORTANT things every instruction book should have. (1) There are no page numbers in this entire 128 page book (I had to count the pages). (2) I am always amazed when an instruction manual does not have a table of contents. I strongly suggest the author and publisher of this manual consider adding these two VERY BASIC aspects in any future books. I also found the author only had limited experience in the grappling arts and other forms of combatives and weapons. There are other things that could have made this a more effective and informative book but the above is sufficient for this review. In conclusion, this is a fair book at best for anyone seeking practical and efficient self-defense information. I suggest you check out the huge self-defense books listed on Amazon before making a decision as to which book to purchase.Rating: 3 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art Myths)

This book is especially good for the untrained person who wants to defend himself/herself ...
Practical and "non-Hollywood" real. This book is especially good for the untrained person who wants to defend himself/herself without having to dedicate years of practice in a martial art. It's also good for the old-guy martial artists like me who still would rather kick ass. At my age that ain't practical. A hit-and-run strategy makes more sense and is still honorable. The book covers what to do and how to do it simply and successfully if you're ever attacked by unsavory types. I learned how to fight when I was in high school to deal with the bullies and gang bangers. Scrapping is something I understand; nevertheless, as an "aging martial artist", standing toe-to-toe doesn't make sense--healing takes too long these days. There are more desirable alternatives. And for those who don't know how to fight, the advice given is solid and natural. It's a good and helpful read.

Not bad
An interesting read, but to get the most out of it you should be willing to do all of the physical exercises. Some of them require a partner to help you. I'm not completely dedicated to everything, but it's a good read.

O.k. but missleeeding
O.k. when I read the tittle I expected some short and easy techniques to defend my self.Something like block and counter and some easy drills for training at home. But this is wrong.Th book tells you a lot about basic knowledge of self defense and also about psychology and right and does and don'ts but it does not fill the expectation you got reading the tittle. So for me this is a little misleading also not a bad book in general. If you read some other books before you probably will not learn anything new !

Very practical and enjoyable
This book could even turn an idiot (in self defense IQ) into a proficient fighterCommon sense techniques, they appear easy to follow. The book was very interseting as a whole and thats alot for someone like myself who hates reading books, I could not put this one down. The key is to read a few times and practice. It gives hope in the fact that you do not have to be a sensei who can punch through walls before you can defend yourselfprobably the most practical book I have ever read.Hopefully I never have to implement the techniques for real (like most I hate violence), just an insurance policy of self reassurance.CERTAINLY WORTH READING.
