Vikings: S4 Vol 1 (DVD)

So love this show!!! I never knew about it until the 4th season came out. When I found it, after watching the series 1, episode 1, my husband & I liked it so much that we binge watched episodes every time we could get free minute, all the way to the current one. This show has a little bit, or whole lot of, of everything that's fun, none of the same ol'-same ol'. You would think it's about nothing but fighting, which I was fine with, as long as there was a story, but no, this has so much story line to it that you genuinely can't stand waiting for the next episode...& even don't mind watching reruns because you're sure to miss something since it's so in depth & so interesting. You will find all kinds on action & battles, on the battlefield/seas & elsewhere (yes...they are Vikings after all); you'll find stories at all times almost of struggles with choosing, struggles with keeping, struggles with understanding, troubles with sharing, & ultimate battles over differences in faith, sometimes realizing that neither is as different from the other in regards to faith...that what means something either way is the faith part of it & sticking to your beliefs & your heart; you'll find beautiful love & romance stories, along with stories of family ties; you'll find plenty to laugh about, as even some of the not-so-good guys are pretty likable & funny at times; some witchery & supernatural related stuff, or hinting of it; & just so much more of a story line than you'd ever expect with a tv series, or Viking story. I honestly think any person could find something of interest on this show if you go back & watch it from the beginning. If you have kids around while you're watching, which I don't recommend unless they're absolutely not paying attention & you're watching intently, ready to fast forward & mute at all times, because there is not only sex scenes, they're Vikings, so they don't hesitate to invite friends into their bed & make it a group endeavor....in saying that though, usually the scenes don't last long, nor is there often very much "shown".

Vikings is a departure, from traditional programming, with history and entertainment, blended into a fascinating TV show. It's one show that has something for everyone, in the family. Even the sexual content is blended so well, it doesn't seem contrived or offensive. We don't have teenagers but if we did, I would allow them to watch the show. There are very few TV shows, with unique story lines and the Vikings is one of the few, where the writers capture the audience's imagination and allows me to watch, without being able to figure out the plot or anticipating what will happen next. It's filled with surprise twists and turns that keeps me on the edge of my seat. I only have one complaint; there are too few episodes per season and at my age, I worry I won't be around, to see the next season. Please consider lengthening the series to 26 weeks, instead of 10-13 episodes per season. This year, all of the networks are producing far too many 30 minute shows that are intended to be comedic but fall short of being funny or having content that would make viewers look forward, to the following week. Almost all programming, with good story lines are being produced by HBO, Showtime, National Geographic and the History channels. Please keep up the good work and consider extending programs like the Vikings.

First off, for the people who just want a simple review and minimal reading, yes it is definitely worth watching. Don't Worry: No Spoilers Ahead. Now for the people who want to know why, I'll have to go into some detail. This show starts off with what I'm assuming is the standard budget for an Amazon tv show series. This is most evident in the first season, as you can clearly see some minimal budget casting and props. However, the main storyline and a few key characters are enough to keep you hanging on til season 2. This is when the show starts to kick it up a notch. They start to take out characters that dont fit the "Viking look" and also they make some sudden plot twist that I did not see coming. I believe this is when the show got a bigger budget to work with and the special effects and side characters really show improvement. The 3rd season and 4th season are just plain awesome. I don't want to get into any detail that will ruin it for you, but if you stick around til season 3, you will be hooked. This may be the first review I've ever wrote, that's how good the show is lol. I know this is probably too long, and hopefully some of you read it all and enjoy this great show as much as I do.

Love this show! It's addictive! Hubby and I watched the whole 4th season in 4 evenings!! We couldn't believe it... and now we have to wait a whole year before we get to watch it again. (BUMMER, but our own fault I suppose.) Hubby's ancestors were Vikings, so it's really interesting from that perspective too. You'd think the Vikings were simply a barbaric people, but they were way more than that... they were survivalists. They were true and loyal to their camp and King, or else they were OUT (usually killed), and they knew this. Their ways were preserved no matter how much it cost them. Each person knew their place; and they knew when they chose to cross the line; and they knew the consequences. Who lives. Who dies. Choices made. While the show is based on history, the presumption of their daily life is incredibly written and realistically depicted! I believe it's filmed on actual Viking stylized boats, on the actual seas, and in real cold weather conditions ... very little CG in the whole series! From the script to the acting, directing, casting, wardrobe, makeup, props, etc... it's like stepping through a portal back in time.
