Decent Book about Juliet Anderson
This is a very thorough book about the life of Juliet Anderson the sex worker and X-Rated Film Star. The author says she doesn't have much information about some parts of Juliet's life and then she goes in to great detail about some of those same parts which is confusing. Parts of her life were not that interesting. And I suppose in the interest of being complete the author decided to include everything. I would have liked to know more about her time in the X-Rated movie business. I felt the author could have spent more time interviewing co-stars, directors and other crew to give us more information about that time of her life. I realize that it was only about a 10 year period of her life but without that period we would not be even interested in reading about Juliet Anderson. A better filmography would have been nice. I hung in there to read it from start to finish but I was ultimately disappointed.

interesting, surprising, a little illuminating and a bit sad. though she was a fascinating creature of many sensual fantasies this book also revealed an actual human being was always involved. even as whims of adulation tempted to make her more, she was never less, even as certain things just wouldn't work out. this was a nice peek into the insides of mortal wishes and dreams straining to come true against the real world. true beauty and real confidence in the female form can be both compelling and contestable, even at the same time, which is why many times a truly liberated woman is also threatening to a not quite liberated man. while being a porn star wasn't all of who she was, it was how she conveyed herself that still lingers among those of us who were easily entertained and definitely entranced. in many ways she was one of those women we really wanted before knowing what we actually wanted. unfortunately it seems, she wasn't as fortunate, making her that much more a human we could appreciate. thank you very much.

For Juliet "Aunt Peg" Anderson... SEX was NO ACT -it was her LIFE!
Once upon a time... Before the porn world went totally anal. Totally extreme, and devoid of human emotion. There was a period known as the "Golden Age." Juliet Carr aka Juliet Anderson, was one of its brightest, and also, oldest stars. She was also one of its most unique.Biographer and personal friend Marian Rhys will take you into that world of the late 1970s and early 80s adult film scene, and she'll take you beyond it. A journey through the life of a very intelligent, complex, and vibrant woman, who was known to millions of her fans as simply "Aunt Peg."Unlike other tales of adult performers and their sordid, tragic lives, Juliet was always someone who enjoyed life to the fullest, and always on her own terms. I can say that, because I too was fortunate enough to not only have known her as a fan, but as a dear personal friend as well.I had heard so many stories about her, read so many articles, including a piece I had written myself. But finally with Love and Lust, Laughter and Loss: The Life of Juliet Aunt Peg Anderson, we now have the whole picture of who she really was. Indeed it is a scholarly, methodical and detailed account, with complete access to personal photos and comments from family and friends. Author Marian Rhys was her dear friend too, so you can well imagine the emotions she put aside to finally pay tribute to someone who brought a little as Juliet would often say, "love and lust" into this crazy world. What makes Juliet stand-out from so many other sex legends, is that she had both style and grace, she knew how to tease, and she really enjoyed the sex for the most part. It was creative, and it was fun, an escape from personal physical and mental pain. Whether on film, video or on a live stage, Juliet knew how to seduce both men and women. She knew the camera, how to write, produce, and even rig the lights and even make thecoffee for the crew.Juliet had brains, and she had travelled the world, having learnt several languages. She had made mistakes and paid dearly for them. The adult movie companies always praised her, but never felt the need to properly compensate her for the millions she has made them. Five years after her death, she's still a good seller! Now, you can go way beyond her legendary digital X-rated life, and see a portrait of a warm sensitive, fiercely independent woman, that we all fell in love with...

An Important Addition to the Sexuality and Feminist Library
One look at the cover tells you that Juliet "Aunt Peg" Anderson was a physically beautiful woman. She was also a pornography star who preached the importance of sexuality and attempted to walk that talk in her own life. Because the author looks unflinchingly at the ways Juliet failed as well as her successes, this biography provides much food for thought. The porn business comes in for its share of attention as well as the support and non-support of various people in Juliet's life. There are many important cautionary tales. A book about a courageous human being in a particular time and place, Love and Lust, Laughter and Loss, is an important addition to the sexuality and feminist library.

This is a great book--it gives one a picture of both the "Golden Age" of porn and a detailed biography of a fascinating women that is revelatory and very moving. Juliet Anderson emerges as a complex figure, who on the one hand experienced a number of painful events, but who also viewed the world in a very life-affirming manner. It is thoroughly researched, well written, and a pleasure to read. Anyone interested in the history of the porn industry and/or the story of an interesting figure will find this book genuinely rewarding.

Detailed and balanced account of the life of a fascinating woman.
No one who saw her will ever forget Juliet Anderson, one of the greatest and most loved stars of the golden age of sex movies. Considerably older than most of the other leading ladies, she portrayed glamorous, sophisticated, no-nonsense professional women with a voracious appetite for sexual encounters. In her own favourite of her movies, A Girl's Best Friend, where they went to considerable expense on her wardrobe, she displays a mixture of romantic, and also bawdy and unsentimental approaches to sex. Her most famous role was as a film producer with an insatiable libido, Aunt Peg, in fact the character and the star became synonymous. Sadly real life didn't imitate art, and when Juliet produced and directed a film of her own, she became the victim of a swindle by one of the many sleazy and shady characters who dominated the industry in the days before it became fully legal, leading to her departure from it for many years. But films and sex work were only just one feature of the full life lead by Judy Carr, her real name. Her friend Marian Rhys has written a full and fascinating account of her life, from her childhood in California, including periods of poor physical health, something that would also plague her in later years, and the adventurous globe-trotting life she lead for many years, including an early marriage which took her to Japan, various work in Finland, and not least the many men in her life, though she doesn't appear to have been a good judge of them, leading to being let-down more than once. But despite her share of bad times, she possessed great resilience and always came through, retaining her love of life and adventurous spirit until a death that came too soon at just 71.Marian Rhys is to be congratulated on producing such a detailed and balanced account of her life, and it's hard to do justice to this book in just a few sentences.
