It really is a good, strong hedge cutter and is quite lightweight too.
This purchase wasn't without hassle as the first one arrived and promptly died. Returning it via Evry was a complete pain, firstly I hadn't used my printer for ages and it wouldn't print the bar codes. I rang up Amazon for help to see if I could return it without the codes, yes she said just write the address on and all will be ok! So I did and headed off to shop number one... not taking any Evry parcels that day! Next day shop number two, we got there to find the shop surrounded by police cars, back home again! Shop number three, we managed to park right outside and it was open... huge parcel shoved in their direction until they told me that it really did need those printed bar codes, I was going to have to find someone to print them for me, so back home we go still with the damn trimmer in the car. Finally I did what I should have done to start with and reinstalled my almost new ecotank printer. Labels finally printed off we returned to shop number two and waved goodbye to the dead trimmer. I'd already received my replacement trimmer and it worked beautifully, hedge cutting has never been so easy and I would recommend this machine as it is much lighter than others in its price range. A word on returns, you only have a limited time to return the faulty goods or you end up paying for both of them, which is why we were in such a hurry to send the broken one back.

Very lightweight extended trimmer which is easy to operate.
I decided to look into extended trimmers to cut my many tall hedges. However, having read most of the many dissatisfied reviews of this product I spent some time looking at the alternatives. The reviews of all of these were equally disappointing; many a lot worse. In the end I thought I'd risk it and try the Gtech LHT50. I have to say that (so far) I am pleasantly surprised. I find this trimmer very lightweight - the main feature for me, as a male in his 70's, and of slight build. Most of my hedges are privet and hawthorn and the blade cuts through these adequately. I also have a long, mature conifer hedge on which I use a powerful, standard length trimmer. I think it's a bit much to expect the Gtech, which is clearly designed to be a lightweight extended trimmer, to cut through thick conifer branches. So, yes, you will need to complement the Gtech with a standard length trimmer. I don't think this is unreasonable. In addition to its lightness I found the switch OK to operate; the trimmer is easy to manoeuvre and it's very easy to change the angle of the blade, even in a precarious position. I've only used it for 3 days, so far, but have not experienced any of the blade-snapping problems others have had and I had no problems with the battery life or the time taken to recharge. It seems quite well made to me but I can't, yet, speak for its longevity, hence the 4 stars.

It’s sheer magic to use.
Lightweight excellent engineered machine, cuts easily to manicure lawn edging, and weed control under hedges. Angle at 90 deg. and get defined borders. Blades are common on Amazon search and changing them a breeze. Gtech give a bunch for starters. Old machine died after six years of abuse so ordered straight away and arrived next day, sheer delight can’t wait to strim again even looking at neighbours garden.

Easy, convenient and eco-friendly.
Impressive battery power and super-easy to use. Great features and flexible holding positions, very ergonomic. No fuel consumption, eco-friendly and safe. Cutting blades really only good for single use but cheap and easy to buy more as needed. The blades are so much less hassle than traditional coil-strimmers. Not suitable for very heavy cutting/use in rough ground, but perfect for the garden and basic grass strimming/edging. Highly recommend.

Great hedge trimmer but battery is very bad
Update: Since my first review I purchased a second battery direct from GTech, thinking maybe the original battery was faulty but alas it was just as bad and only hot 15 mins runtime as when you get down to one or two lights (out of four on battery) it won’t cut the thinnest bush. I just keep eat getting caught and stoping and won’t cut unless it’s fully charged. I was so disappointed that I sent it back to Amazon after its first real use. I borrowed a Dwalt from a friend and battery lasted nearly an hour and it cut really well. Original review was on day one: This did a great job and no problem cutting large hedge but battery only last about 20 mins cutting time and constantly had to wait for recharge. There is four lights on battery and when you get down to one cutting is not good. Charging takes over an hour and it’s not a huge garden so really inconvenient. The charger itself is slow to charge compared to my other cordless tools. It’s a good cutter but if you have more than 20 mins of cutting but a spare battery. Also spare battery was half the price on GTech website than it was on Amazon (not sure why). Realistically you will need three batteries and two chargers for a big garden for continuous use. Sadly they don’t seem to sell a bigger battery like most cordless tools.

Nice trimmer BUT the battery is not!
I have several different GTech cleaners in the house and they're great, so thought I'd give their hedge trimmer a go. We have a high fir hedge around the front and sides of the property and until now, have had to use a stepladder to reach the top as it's about 7ft tall on the garden side and as the garden is raised,10ft tall on the pavement side. The cutter is easy to assemble and light enough to carry around, but when using it soon tests your arms and shoulders, even with the shoulder strap. I'm a female in her sixties and pretty fit, so it's not a stumbling block for me but does enforce regular work breaks🤣. I found the cutting head difficult to alter as you have to put quite a lot of pressure on the lever to release the lock and keep the lever down whilst you alter the cutting angle. Similarly holding the button down and pulling the trigger to start it is awkward if you have a small hand, but you sort of get used to it. The trimmer itself is very good, better than the standard cordless trimmer we have. It also means that I no longer have to risk life and limb on a ladder. Where I feel the product really fails though is the battery life. It sucks!!. GTech advise it should last for an hour. I've used it for 3days now and it's dead within 30-40 minutes and that's not continual use as I have to stop every now and then to give my arms a break. It then takes the full 4 hours (as GTech correctly advise) to fully charge it again. So it's taking a lot longer to cut my entire hedge - albeit a lot more safely. Given the high price of this trimmer, I would expect a stronger battery or a spare to be included, as having to stop to charge the battery is a real pain. Annoyingly, you can't just swap out the battery because it's completely different to any other rechargeable tool battery. GTech will sell a spare but it's another £54, which makes my eyes water after spending so much on the trimmer.
