No Patterns Needed: DIY Couture from Simple Shapes Review: So you want to get away from patterns? - I am not a great sewist and, despite learning to make my own sloper, I’ve been stymied by patterns again and again. And I’m not tall and skinny like a model. (More short and lumpy.) Yet I love to make clothes for myself out of good linen and by recycling interesting cotton fabric. Which is why I have decided I love Rosie Martin. You don’t need a pattern with this book, just your measurements. And you can take the dress designs apart to make things like cool tops or interesting bottoms — or to modify a design to make it look more flattering on you. And, best of all, you can make most of these designs in less than a weekend. Yay! Thank you, Rosie Martin, for No Patterns Needed. It’s just what this older, non-model sewist needed! Review: Great for improvisers - I have Rosie's earlier book, DIY Couture, and I really love this follow-up. I work in the industry and I love her pattern-free technique. I think she sets everything out very plainly and is very easy to follow. Plus, I love the styles. If you are someone who can't improvise in your sewing, I can understand why you may find this perplexing. However, learning to work without patterns can give you a lot more insight into fit and proportion.

I'll give this 3 stars because the idea is good and I'm sure this will appeal to some
I'll give this 3 stars because the idea is good and I'm sure this will appeal to some. I did not find the designs useful and gave the book to my younger daughter with teenager children.

I like the way Rosie gives you different versions of her ...
I like the way Rosie gives you different versions of her garments. You don't need a paper pattern but she normally uses ready made garments as her pattern. I like her step-by-step instructions for completing each garment and I loved her use of a variety of models including a BBW model. That was quite refreshing since most models in sewing books are very thin.

Love It
I bought so many sewing books, both vintage and modern ones that are highly recommended. This is the one book that really made me feel that I can do the projects without them being overly simple/sometimes unattractive. I’m a novice and this book makes me feel more and more like a real seamstress :D

the idea is good, but it is poorly written
this book had a good idea, but the writing is poor and it makes things way more complicated rather than simpler. Avoid. Don't waste your money.
