Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook: The Complete Middle School Study Guide [Workman Publishing, Geisen, Michael, Madanes, Sharon, Editors of Brain Quest] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook: The Complete Middle School Study Guide Review: Great reference book at great value - Been having a hard time looking for a specific reference book for my 5th Grader's Science learning at local Middle school. The Science subject this year, however, is somewhat challenging - most of students are being pressurized to expand their own vocabulary bank (jargons and terminologies in terms of general physics, chemistry, astrology and biology); some of them also struggle with visualizing the 'concept' that is introduced by the teacher; the biggest problem is that they need to cultivate and continuously strengthen a series of study habits, including chapter preview prior to the class, even given the fact that no officially assigned textbook to them yet. Therefore, in my opinion, this Science Notebook serves the purpose by bridging the gap in this dilemma - which is to introduce and highlight the key points of each sub-subject of ‘Science’ and guide students to do further research based on each chapter before and after the class. I would recommend this Science book for 5th Graders, however please also extend after-school research on each Science topic on a daily basis, 10-20 minutes would be perfect. Review: Great book - This book is very creative and interesting and really explains things in a way that I can have great discussions with my grandkids about each page. I'm learning a ton, since I was not into science and feel like I can actually ask good questions to get them thinking as we read this book. I have them read it to me and then discuss. There are questions at the end of each section and answers are on the next page. It explains each process, step by step, is colorful, easy to read and has a GREAT overview of everyday science vocabulary. I highly recommend this book to those who want a good basis for scientific process and vocabulary. It covers an overview of all the different science categories, scientific investigations from ecology, outer space, engineering to human biology and more. It doesn't go into detail, but wets the appetite with good explanations of each type of science.

Great book - buy this for your child - great for all middle school grades
Great book. Attractive enough to make you want to pick it up and read it. The graphics are colorful, the font is clear, and the highlights and titles are in bold print. Chapters are color coded. Check Your Knowledge questions and answer page included. Contents list all the units and it's coverage. What makes this book stand out from all the others is that it includes all the important information broken down in easy to understand text and simple to read maps. It's all you need to know and that's it. There are a total of 5 subjects in this series: they include Math, Science, English Language Arts, World History, American History in the series and we have all of them. This is definitely worth the investment. Parents will find this book and series simple to explain to your child and/or read with them. Nothing complicated. Buy this book and the others in the series. I highly recommend it.

Fun and Informative
This book was recommended by our 6th grade science teacher as an optional supplement since it breaks down concepts into fun, bite-size tidbits. My child enjoyed reading it on his own without any encouragement from his parents and didn't put it down for several days.

a different way to review before tests
Before quizzes or tests, we used to rely on class notes that were sometimes incomplete or hard to follow. This book gave us a more consistent way to review. We would go through a few sections at a time, and the short recap questions at the end made it easy to check what my child remembered. It also reduced some of the stress around test preparation. Instead of scrambling to gather information from different sources, everything was in one place. That made the process feel calmer for both of us, especially on school nights when time is limited.

Great book
I think this would be something good for adults to read also who would like a short summary on a subject without going into a lot of detail.
