I have been using two of these for close to 20 years. One controls the light over our front door, the other the light on our detached garage. One recently failed so I replaced it. You can't find these at Home Depot, etc. so I was happy to find in at Amazon.Pros-Fits over the switch plate. The front door light switch is one of four with a brass cover plate, so this unit easily adapts. In the garage, the plate has a switch and an outlet - again the unit adapts. So it's perfect for an older house. Easy to install.Once you get the hang of it - easy to program. If there is a power outage or the bulb(s) burn out, you have to re-program. I used to keep the instructions at hand but know I know the drill.Compared to a digital unit, it's easy to program.Makes your house look lived in and saves power by turning the light off.Cons-A little on the ugly side, but not an eyesore.Does not work with compact fluorescent bulbs - incandescent only!

The newer digital timers will not work with the older wiring in our home. The mechanical timer was easy to install, easy to program and works as expected. Our porch light goes on at dusk and off at dawn whether we are home or away. The big question is how long it will last. The first timer we had in this location lasted for many years. Unfortunately, subsequent timers have not worked as well or lasted as long. Only time will tell.Just over a year after installing this timer it stopped working. Overpriced for a short-lived product.

Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but I'm sick of everything having to be digital! I have manual timers on a couple of other switches in the house, so when I wanted one more, I went to two different home centers and a hardware store - nothing available except digital. So I bought a digital GE one, took me forever to program it, then after about 3 months - like so many things digital - it died.I finally found this one on Amazon, and it's perfect. It installed easily, and contrary to what some other reviewers said, I found the programming to be a snap. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and I set my start and stop times with no problem. And that's exactly what I wanted - a timer that turns my porch light on and off - not one that knows the phase of the moon in Tibet and the train schedules in Siberia and whatever else manufacturers try and cram into digital products these days.Fast shipping, a good price, easy to install, easy to program, and works exactly like it's supposed to. What more can you ask from a product? Definitely five stars, and thank you Amazon for continuing to carry products like these when the retailers have all gone digital (are you listening Home Depot, Lowes, and Ace?)

I use this timer to control exterior lights. This purchase replaced an earlier version of the same timer I purchased over 20 years ago. It is simple and effective, easy to program compared to alternative options. The only short comings are the loss of settings during power outages and it only works with traditional incandescent light bulbs (no LED's, no CFL's, etc.). Timers that require you to read a 20 page manual and push multiple buttons for different lengths of time for different functions drive me nuts. The whole timer fits into a light switch box, no special wall plates required, which works well when you install this timer in a multi ganged box along side traditional switches. Simple to install, easy to use, last one ran for over 20 years.

A little difficult to set the timer,but once set,works well. Not 100% accurate with keeping exact time,loses a few minutes a day (not terrible). Very simple to install though and I am NOT handy.

I bought one of these about 5 years ago, and it worked like a charm. It finally died. I ordered a new one, and it didn't work. Got a replacement, and it didn't work AGAIN! Tried for a third, and it finally worked... Amazon was great with the return and replacement... but the Intermatic quality is REALLY iffy now. I was going to give up on it completely if the 3rd didn't work... I put it in today, and it's working - fingers are crossed.Bottomline - if you get one that works, it's an awesome switch. Easy to use, etc. But if you get one that doesn't work, good luck...

For those reviewers who got this thing to work, all I can say is that they were lucky. It is so cheaply constructed, that it must be from China. However it says made in Mexico......wonder of wonders. It is mostly made of plastic, and extremely difficult to install. I never got to run it because the plastic switch would not operate. After spending too many hours trying to make it work, I finally threw it away, and will simply continuing using a toggle switch, as before. Intermatic once was a reliable product line. I have used their timers in two houses for many years. This thing is JUNK ! Save yourself a pile of frustration, and use some other product.

I have been using this type of timer to turn on and off a back porch light for approx. 2 or 3 years,I like this timer because it is simple to use and has no extras, what i call unnessary things to set on it, The problem i had when the old went bad i could not find one at lowes or home depot or anywhere else, I turned to the internet and starting searching, I found servial and with a wide range of prices, The cheapest one,but only about 2 dollars i tried to order was on a secure server,to secure after servial tries and frustrated i left that site and found this one on amazon.com, I ordered from this company with no problems the order was shipped quickley,the price was right and timer is in service, This timer is a great timer simple to set and reliable, a digital timer with all the settings mo,year and seem like some other settings is not nessarry and four wire conection is not to easy to wire,Thanks amazon,com,

Received the product in no time. We had one of these for 10 or so. Worked great for that many years but it died. I was thankful I was able to find the same timer on Amazon. So far it is working and doing it's thing.
