Brilliant book written in exactly the way you could expect it from a WW1 prequal of the Emmerdale village including way back Dingles and how they arrived in the village and the general reaction of the villagers to the new recruited soldiers and who will come back to the place unscathed , and poor Maggie who has had to marry Joe Sugden after the downfall of her father's farming empire and when war is declared she is left to run the farm on her own until she has to admit defeat or hire a conscientious objector and get ostracized by the community until a horrible change of events that turn the whole villagers opinions of them around and for the better . I can't wait for the next book to hopefully follow as it left me waiting for the next installment of the villagers as it is not a conclusion that I want to wait too long for , totally gripping book
