Is it resistent to UV light (i.e.,exterior use)?

Silicone is highly UV resistant.
Howver, single conductor wire should not be used "in the open" if the voltage on the conductors is hazardous, approx 24 volts ac or 60 volts dc.  There is a need for mechanical protection of insulation (like at least the jacket of a cable, if not some sort of conduit) as well as basic insulation.

Can someone confirm me what over diameter means? is it the insulator + wire diameter?

The standardized method of measuring the thickness of a cable (American Wire Gauge or AWG) was established in 1857 in the United States. This form of measuring cable thickness is used specifically for electrically conductive wire. Note that the diameter of the cable does not include the outer insulation - just the conducting wire on the inside.

Does 18awg mean that it’s for 18 volts? i need it to extend the black and red cords for 12v speakers

Accepted Answer

In response to a previous answer, the smaller the gauge number, the bigger it is in diameter and the more amps it can handle. Each AWG size is rated for a certain amperage at a certain voltage. So to start, you should find out what voltage your system is running at. Then, look up a table of the maximum amperage at that found voltage. Finally, select a wire gauge that is over that limit. The further you go, the cooler it will stay and the safer it should be.

For example, say we have a motor that uses 35 amps at 12 volts. According to a cart I looked up, at 12 volts AWG 12 gauge wire can handle 41 amps while AWG 14 is only rated for 32. Therefore, we should select AWG 12 gauge or higher to handle the load without burning up.

There is a whole science and you can really get into the math of it but this is a good place to start. If you want to be safe, you can always go a bit higher and sacrifice a little extra cash for peace of mind. I hope this helps
