DIY wireless wall switch, no electrical experience needed!
I have an old house, and I don't want to chop holes in my old walls to run electrical wiring and switches. I've bought a few of these Westek wireless wall mounted switches for various rooms in my home. Mostly to turn on and off lamps so I don't have to walk into a dark room and fumble for the light switch. I was telling a friend of mine about my recent purchase, and he thought it might work for his lighting situation. He lives on a second floor apartment with a first floor entry. He has to walk up a flight of stairs into a dark room, and then turn on the closest lamp to get light into the room. We both wondered if you had two of these switches, would it work as a 3-way switch? (FYI- a 3-way switch controls from two points.... doesn't make sense, they should really call it a 2-way 'cause you can turn it on and off two different ways). So he went ahead and ordered two Westek switches. Well it worked! He put one switch at the bottom of the staircase, and the other at the top of the staircase and plugged the lamp into a nearby outlet. No major damage to your walls (just 2 little holes), DIY simple and no electrician needed! Wish they sold this product with an additional switch or a single switch option without the plug in box. Looks great and makes me happy that I can easily control more lights in my home.

I Really Like These, But...
...as another reviewer noted, be careful to specify the frequency if you are ordering more than one (or if you are ordering a second one in a different order). From what I gather, they come in frequencies "A" through "E". The way that I tried to specify the frequency was that the first switch I ordered was on the "B" frequency, so in the comments sections where you could leave instructions as if it was a gift, I told them to send me anything except one in the "B" frequency because I already had that. The second one they sent me was on frequency "D" so I think that it worked. I agree that there should be a way that we can just leave an instruction as to the frequency that we want, but there isn't. I figured that since the vendor would read those instructions from the customer, this is probably better than just taking a chance that they won't send you a second one on the same frequency as the first one that you ordered. As far as the product is concerned, it works well and does the job. The switch has excellent range and you don't necessarily need a clear line of sight to the remotely controlled plug. I was able to install a remote light switch for my living room pole lamp at the top of the stairs coming from the master bedroom. The second was installed on the headboard of my bed so I could remotely control the pole lamp in my bedroom. I did the same thing at my elderly mother's house and she loves the convenience of having the light switch at the head of her bed. I definitely recommend this product. You an use some double sided tape and mount your light switch at any convenient location.

Ok build quality, great functionality, easy to "install" and set up
Build quality: not fantastic. The switch looks cheap and feels cheap, but it does what it is designed to do. I only have two issues: 1) You can't select which channel(s) you want when you place your order. I ordered a twin pack and both were the same channel. Not very helpful since I was planning to use two switches in two different rooms. 2) The switch is a little touchy. If you screw the cover on too tightly it either won't work, or will randomly turn off/on. The solution is to back the screw out a 1/4 turn at a time until it's in the sweet spot. As other reviewers have noted be sure you check the wattage of the object you are going to plug in. With lights and such you won't have any issues, but if it's anything with a three prong plug or high wattage (humidifier, portable A/C, etc..) the switch is NOT rated for use.

WORKS PERFECTLY
What a relief when I plugged this product in AND IT WORKED. You might think "what's the big deal", but I'd previously bought and immediately returned a similar device, Westinghouse T00412 Light Switch Remote (currently not available on Amazon, which is a good thing!). Here was my experience with both products: . Westinghouse- the battery was already installed when I opened the sealed package- so it's likely energy was draining from the battery since it was packaged. Lamp turned ON when I flipped the switch up. Lamp stayed ON when I flipped the switch down- I couldn't turn it off! Back to Amazon it went. . AmerTac- battery installed but with a plastic tab which I was instructed to remove- so the battery was fresh. Lamp turned ON when I flipped the switch up. Lamp turned OFF when I flipped the switch down. . This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it IS nice when a product does exactly what it's supposed to do and MIGHTY AGGRAVATING when it doesn't. Shame on you, Westinghouse!

Great choice for a wireless switch
So far, this switch is working perfectly. It's only been a couple of days, so I can't comment on long term reliability. However, it does function perfectly the couple days we've been using it. We have this connected to a standard desk lamp (with an LED bulb installed). I attached the battery powered switch (they do include the battery) to the wall using the provided screws, plugged the lamp into the AC adapter, and that into a power strip - and bammo, it works. The switch works well, and seems to be decent quality. We also like the fact that the AC adapter has it's own on/off button on it, which can come in handy to turn on or off the lamp we're using with this switch. The on/off button on the AC adapter is lit up (green color) when the wireless switch is in the ON position - a nice feature. It works very well for us, and we like the features of this wireless switch. Highly recommended.

Great, great, great solution for wireless lighting.
This is definitely a 5/5 item. Range: 5/5 -Across the room works great -Through a wall works great -Nothing interferes with this Quality: 4.7/5 -Not cheaply made -You can knock into the light switch and its fine -Reacts quickly to rapid presses -I see this outlasting the battery, which will be a long time. It will probably be discarded before it ever breaks Super easy to install on the wall. You can use sticky tack or nails. It does NOT have a 3rd prong for a safety ground. So most anything not industrial will plug in. If you have a 3 prong item, just get a little converter for $.69 at Lowes. This won't cause any damage to the things connected to it. You can have multiple of these if they are different frequencies. And if they're the same you can turn on multiple things with one switch (Usually lighting purposes).

Buyer Beware!!!
Update 9/18/2021 I purchase the GE 18279, wireless wall switch back in 2017, and it's still working today, September 18, 2021. So I've offered a "working" alternative for anyone interested. Good luck!!! Update 3/14/2017 The unit wall switch quit working today. The battery is good, the switch unit no longer toggles the light. This is my second unit purchased from "AmerTac RFK100LC" that quit working in under a year. Save your money. Update 7/12/2016 I installed this the day it arrived,Jan 20, 2016. Today it quit working, the problem is in the wall mount. The light on the wall mount no longer cut's on when plugged into an active outlet (an outlet I verified as working with my volt meter, and another lamp). The battery is still good in the switch. Since this wireless switch is only around 13 dollars, I'll purchase another, no need to dock a star, I would still recommend this switch. I'll update if the new one fails, then I'll purchase the GE 18279 Wall-Switch Light Control Remote with 1 Outlet Receiver. Original Review: 1/17/2016 Just as advertised. Easy to install. I needed a wireless switch because I wanted a light above my sink, and didn't want to dremel out my existing tile to place a wired switch. I ran the wire through the attic to the location of the light, added a single outlet and junction box, plugged the receiver into the newly wired junction box in my attic, about 12 inches from the newly installed light, then plugged my new light into that. Then I took the cover off the wireless switch, to remove the plastic bit from the battery connection, replaced the wireless switch cover. It worked just as expected. (I tested the wireless connection throughout every room of my house and there was no where it did not turn the light on or off). However I had to use double-sided tape to affix the wireless switch to the tile, the kit included sheetrock anchors, but I had some double-sided tape in my tool box. Since I have strips of double sided tape (tape is about 1/8 inch thick) on the back, the outlet sticks out about 1/2 inch. I've included picture to help anyone out in their search.
