Makes Betrayal worth it
While book one read like a quest, book two had the depth of the original riftwar series if not as many layers and intrigue. Krondor the Assassins made the work of slugging through the predictable book 1 well worth it.

Feist Plays Hookey in his own World
I gave this fluff a four - which it really doesn't deserve but...Jimmy and Arutha are my favorite characters in the Midkemia world...and Assassins is head and shoulders above Betrayal. And even though we are clearly set up for books 3, 4 etc., I'd rather have mediocre Feist than no Feist at all. Feist makes Assassins a stronger book by concentrating its limited plot line on Squire James and his Prince. Betrayal had a 'Whoo! Where did that come from.' quality that...well...betrayed the reader. Assassins is much more tightly plotted. I can see how this novel is structured after a video game: fighting in the Nighthawks underground fortress is clearly level x...but it doesn't wack you in the head with it. And, for the most part, I didn't feel I was reading something written for computer geeks who want a further game fix. So I guess I'll be waiting for book 3... Krondor, the Misdemeanor?

A good book, but...
Krondor:Assassins is a continuation of the "Betrayal" storyline, in case you didn't know. Unfortunately for Feist's readers, this book really is pointless. No important new characters are introduced, nothing important happens... the book isn't one I'd reread. The mere fact that this is a prequel limits the book's development. If new characters are introduced, he would have to allude to them in the Serpentwar saga, which is kind of difficult, as they've already been written. Same with no important events. Another problem would be that if the new guys or events were alluded to in Serpentwar, nobody really knows who they are or what event Feist is talking about(i.e. the Crawler incident mentioned in the Serpentwar). Please stop writing about the same characters. I could probably write Pug's biography if I had to. Time for a new batch of heroes. Maybe write some more about Great Kesh (not a prequel to the Riftwar or something). I sincerely hope "Tear of the Gods" will be better... I'll finally know what Feist was talking about when he mentioned it back in Serpentwar. If "Tear" isn't any good, goodBYE. "Magician" and the other Riftwar books were absolute classics... but you're pushing your luck now.

Much stronger than the first!
What an ominous ending!! I liked this middle book even more than the first book! It was a lot more exciting! Jimmy the Hand is a wonderful creation and William is quite likable as well. Not to mention the surprise cameo of my favorite character, Amos Trask! The plot unfolded more creatively and in a much more exciting manner than the first book and I am interested to see how everything will be solved in the third part - though, really, this book did not seem to connect to _Krondor, The Betrayal_ as much as I would have expected, but perhaps the third volume will link everything together.

Disappointing from Feist ....
I'm reviewing Feists' (and those involved with him) works in Chronological order. Unfortunately for some books there are new books and covers being re-released in March 2013 so reviews for the old books can no longer be posted. Not so clever AMAZON.Anyway this review is for the chronological reading of books by Feist and others that all link Medkemia and Kelewan and form the Riftwar Saga, Legacy and beyond. This one is for Krondor: The Assassins. This is the second of three books currently available. The order is:-Magician 5 starsJimmy the Hand 2 StarsHorored Enemy 4 starsMurder in LaMuT 3 stars.Daughter of the Empire 5 starsSilverthorn 4.5 starsDarkness at Sethanon 5 starsServant of the Empire 5 starsKrondor: The Betrayal 3 StarsMistress of the Empre 5 starsKRONDOW: THE ASSASSINS 3 STARSand so on ... look for the rest of the reviews in the coming months. So this book follows on from Krondor the betrayal. It's as equally lackluster and poorly paced as the afor mentioned book. The reason for this (and to be honest I'm starting to tire of looking for excuses for Raymond) is I believe is the tie in with Sierra who were producing the computer game . The basic problem is the game was produced under licence *but* then Raymond tried to write books to follow the games and it's basically caused him to produce 3 books that frankly lack any of the rich story telling that Raymond produced for Magician. Looking back I guess Raymond like everyone was just trying to make as much money as possible by licencing his world, writing books to complement games, allowing others to write books for him (that's didn't have the same ability) etc. etc. All in all he's probably doing very well thank you but these books and the others he co-authored (apart from Janny Wurts) are simply rubbish. If this had been his first offerings he'd have been consigned to the heap. So while I keep reading desperate to see some of the wonderful stuff we saw at the begining of his writing career I'd caution anyone about going beyond his first 3 books and Janny Wurts' complimantary trilogy as well. C'Mon Raymond be brave and give us something original !

Fantastic 👏
I'm biased. I freely admit that Frost is one of the very best world builders and story tellers. Definitely my favourite huge series I own or intend to own every single one in paper and e-book versions.

Krondor: the Assassins
The middle book of the three in the series. I found this to be the least interesting of the Midkemia series stories. However, the book is fast paced as usual. I read it very quickly. I have yet to read one of Feist's books that wasn't good entertainment. I would still recommend this one, even if I don't think it one of his best.

350 pages of compelling plot...
..ended abruptly and disappointingly. What started as a brilliant sequel ended in confusion. The obvious mystery of sidi is left open but the poorly finished duke plot was saddening to read. The nighthawk story was enthralling and once again Jimmy steals the show. Fantastic to read, but could have been great.
