Excellent axe if size and weight are an issue.
Very robust and well put together - looking forward to an opportunity to test it in the wild. The saw is small, but still a useful size. The saw is retained in the axe handle by both a magnet AND a rubber grommet/clip which reassured me. NB: This axe is not primarily designed to be "well balanced", it's designed to be light yet strong. So the axe is a little top heavy, however I feel that's a small price to pay for such a light, packable, useful tool. Excellent price and excellent customer service from MidiMax here on marketplace.

Combo Axe
This axe has a nice tactical and stealthy design and with it's added hand saw which stores inside the axe handle just make this purchase even better. The handle grip on both the axe and saw are textured rubber gator pattern which looks and feels very nice. One comment said the small saw was like a kids toy.....I stongly disagree. While is not going to compete with Bahco folding saws, it still feels quality in the hand and youtube reviews show its a decent saw for small to medium branches. When i received this combo axe i had to request a replacement because it does not match amazons image the have up.....the logo is large on my axe and i didnt like it but if the replacement is the same ill have to just make do. Not had chance to use this yet but i hope it doesn';t break like some reviewers show. All in all.....Id recommend this axe for the price. Happy camping.

Sturdy and ingenious - The perfect pack-axe.
You may or may not be aware that Gerber is a name you can trust. They make good quality tools designed to last in the field and so that's one of the main reasons I decided on the Gator 2 when choosing a pack-axe. The other reason of course was the clever design which integrates a saw into the handle - but does it work or is it just a gimmick? Course it works, this is Gerber we're talking about here! The axe itself is a nice size and relatively compact. From head to hilt it measures just 40cm and the axe head itself, just over 12cm. The handle is a nice size, allowing you a good grip and is light, making the whole unit slightly top-heavy which aids chopping. The handle is finished with the 'gator skin' texture acting as grip moulded into the plastic rubberised handle which hides the second edged tool - the hand saw. The saw is easily accessed and held in place by a small hidden magnet. To further ensure it doesn't fly out mid chop there is also a rubber clasp attached to the main shaft of the axes handle which pulls down and stretches over the hilt holding the saw securely in the handle. The saw measures 10 inches from the tip of the blade to the hilt of the handle, which is also finished with the 'gator skin' grip. The saw-teeth are reminiscent of the type you find on the Swiss Army knife and also, are as sharp as a set of gator teeth! This is the one area there is a weakness in the product - I would have liked to have seen a bit more of a finger guard on the saw's handle, as currently, if you're going at a branch hammer and tongs and the saw sticks, there's a very good chance you hand will slip and slide up the jagged blade opening your hand up something rotten - possibly beyond repair - so exercise a caution when using it. Finally, you get a tough sheath to cover the axe head which also acts as a belt holder if you so wish, as there is a loop on the back through which you can thread your belt. It's made from tough canvas, has a Velcro fastening, and a foam end stitched into to it to protect the edge of the axe from damage. To sum up the gator 2 is a brilliant tool and a a clever piece of design which saves space and comes in very handy in lots of outdoor situations. It's sleek black looks are both functional and beautiful and I haven't hesitation in recommending you this product. If you want a small handy pack-axe that looks great, works well, and offers you 'hidden' benefits too - sink your teeth into a Gator 2 from Gerber. You can't go far wrong.

Small but mighty.
The hatchet in my opinion is worth it's weight in gold. We do a lot of wild camping so the compact size and weight of the axe is great for back country treks. It makes burning deadfall much more efficient especially in the damp highlands. I've even powered through some pretty large pieces of timber! The included saw however isn't good for much more than a bread knife.

I'm very happy with this axe/saw combo. I've used a few Gerber axes, and they are impressively sharp, durable, light and comfortable, and this axe is no exception. The saw blade hidden in the handle is very handy and has a coarse tooth pattern to make quick work of cuts. The blade does feel a bit flimsy, but that's because I'm more used to full frame swede/bow saws with tensioned blades. The saw blade is also held in with two methods, a magnet and a rubber strap, to keep the blade in place. Lastly, the case is great for keeping the axe head protected and for safe storage in my trunk.

Attrezzo multifunzione. L'ho usato per rametti e picchettare tenda. Va bene come oggetto multifunzione. Ottima resistenza dopo utilizzo importante. Nota negativa la scomodità del laccetto sotto.

I did a lot of research before buying this. I looked at SOG and lots of other companies, and what you get it is ABSOLUTELY professional grade and durability. I bought this for my B.O.B. but now own two. Axe: I have to split this into 3 sections because its needs this kind of review. I watched a lot of Youtube videos, whom get paid to review it and like it. But, real world is the only review it needs. THERE IS NOTHING COMPARABLE. The Axe Blade: This will cut your finger off like a knife. I cut my self not even 3 minutes out of the packaging. I just wanted to check the edge and was surprised (obviously). It has a good wide head without it being too big. I have a full size gerber axe and some 40 year old thing too. I wanted something lightweight that still does the job. The SOG verision is a little longer but is super thin compared to this. I have used it to split an entire cord of wood and the blade is still sharp. The blade is heat treated. I can still throw it if I wanted too. The Axe Head Back. This is what majorly separated itself from anything else. This is a full size hammer head that takes some disrespecting abuse. I was hammering nail points to try and F*&@ it up. For a basic preppers carrying too many tools is stupid and ignorant. The Axe handle. I tried to break it. I failed. After bending it, Throwing huge rocks at it, and then taking my 04 Suburban and driving over it, I couldn't break it. It is polymer (plastic) but that's what makes it resilient. I know I could cut it off with the little saw that comes with it, but no axe will handle that, and why in the world would you do that anyway. It comes with a head cover! I keep it in this now so I don't hurt myself again. Its very durable and has some hanging options on it. I wish it had Molle compatible webbing but made it work without it on the side of my back. The Saw: Its a typical little saw, its full tang and runs up into the handle which is good, didn't use it much but it is the reason I bought this set. Try to cut down on weight in my pack and increase its usage this is perfect, Its nice and sharp as well and best yet, its in the axe handle. Its held in place by a rubber strap, and will be handy if I ever need it. Hands down best tool for camping, Hiking Ive ever owned. I own Gerber hand tools and many guns and knifes. In a real life world tool, this is necessary and sharp.
