Nice, functional! Lightweight, sturdy. High quality.
Bought this for hauling lumber in my truck. While not a short bed, I think 12+ft lumber is a bit too long to haul safely with a 6ft bed. This supports the lumber out 4ft from the end of the bed, or abou It can also be flipped and used in combination with a roof rack, but then you can't drop your tailgate. Height is adjustable with 5 pin holes, for about 10" of adjustment to find level with your bed. Finish is a nice, textured powder coat, but the inside isn't coated so they could rust over time. Mine had surface rust inside right out of the box. Tube steel is thick enough that it seems it will be strong enough to support the rated 350lb, but it is light enough to easily handle. Knocked down it doesn't take up much space. The pieces do have a bit of slack and wobble around when unloaded, but once loaded and strapped down the wobble goes away. Be advised, loading a couple hundred pounds cantilevered way back of your car /truck, will make your rear suspension squat far more than the same weight in the inside the car/bed. Overloading the rear suspension unloads the front suspension, and reduces braking and steering. Bigger concern on cars and jeeps with soft suspension than on pickup trucks. Be safe out there.

Awesome bed extender
This is an easy to use bed extender. Works perfectly for hauling kayaks. The finish is very good, pretty heavy overall and is very sturdy. The hooks on the end work great for adding a red flag and to secure the end of my kayaks. My only suggestion to the manufacturer is to change the color. Black looks pretty sharp, but when you are driving on a sunny day be sure to wear gloves when you disconnect and store it because this thing gets hot. Wish it were something lighter and more visible like a bright green or orange. Only other suggestion would be to add some reflectors to the end. Other than that, this thing is awesome. Update: Because it gets hot on a sunny day, I took an extra large pool noodle, cut a slit in it and fit the noodle over the end and used long wire ties to secure it to the t-bar end. The kayaks sit on the pool noodle instead of the black metal t-bar.

Does the job it's made for, however has rust out of the box.
Attached to my 2014 Ford Escape, 2" hitch. Very useful and does it's job. Pros: Holds weight well and doesn't rattle. Cons: Rust when I pulled it out of box, and continues to rust. However that's an easy fix, go to Walmart and spray some rustoleum rubberized coating on it. 5 bucks extra and you get a grip coating on it.

Solid and Practical
I bought this to haul a kayak and canoe in my Tacoma Crew Cab, and it works great. Recently I was having my deck rebuilt. I knew a guy who did great work but he had lost his license. He offered a great price if I would haul the lumber. I was able to haul 16' deck boards and sheets of plywood without any issues. The deck extender paid for itself several times over!

Hefty kayak carrier
Pros: -One hefty piece when assembled. Easy to insert into hitch, fold open, and secure. Appears to be thoughtfully designed. -Heavy duty, unlikely to bend or break. -Meets online description, nothing in advertisement is misleading. -Made kayak loading/unloading much easier than overhead. Also cuts wind resistance so I can travel highway speeds. -Cheaper, easier to load than many "mainstream" overhead racks. Cons: -Limited height adjustment. Fit my truck perfectly but may be difficult for trucks with lift kit to match bed height to crossbar extension. Final comment: -Excellent product for my needs. I have a Nissan Frontier with 5 foot bed. Really stabilizes 14 foot kayak overhang. Would recommend to others with similar needs..

Works well
This item is fantastic, very sturdy and great for the DIY homeowner. I’ve used it three times so far and it has already paid for itself saving me from renting a trailer when I need 16ft boards. Definitely invest in some properly sized ratchet straps if you plan to use it on the highway or don’t have a passenger to act as a spotter on the back roads. It’s a little nerve racking the first time you use it but as long as you tie your load down properly you will have no issues.

Not a shorty anymore
I was able to get some fiber cement siding for my home without paying and waiting for it to be delivered. I had to be creative with some plywood because they were 12" siding and the extender fell short about 4". Nonetheless, this worked great and it was very easy to assemble and so far it is very sturdy. Even though it has some weight to it, it is also easy to transport. The caveat is how small of a footprint it takes up when not in use. You will have to buy a hitch pin but for me, it was worth it. Hey, my short bed is a little longer.

Best extender for the money
I am 100% satisfied with the Erickson Bed Extender. It arrived in good protective packaging and in perfect shape. The paint job looks good, the joints are welded square, and the metal seems heavy enough to do the job while not being hard to handle. I like that the distance between the welded on tie-down loops is a little over 48 inches, so that you have some room to adjust any 4x8 material that you might haul. Yes, there is a lot of play in the connections, but that's the way all receiver hitches act. I recommend a good hitch tightener like the Hitch RETECK Tightener for 1.25" and 2"Hitches, sold on Amazon. Use that and some good ratchet-type tie downs and you'll be fine. For the money I don't think you could do better than this product.

this is nice and the fold up feature is great - use it for transporting two 13 ft kayaks - got a pool noodle to add cushioning to the bar though

Works fantastic - the day I got it, I managed to haul 6 - 16'x6x6's in my Dodge Ram short box so easy. The guy's at the Lumber yard we so impressed they all wanted to know where I got it ! Love it, so easy to use, folds up and easy to store in truck box.

Purchased it because was tired of climbing all over the roof of my Tundra to secure paddle boards and kayaks. I built a wooden piece that drops over the cross member and covered it with indoor/outdoor carpet to protect boats. Will make loading boats way quicker and easier, it comes off quick and folds up to make storing it a breeze. Added bonus It will be handy for hauling long loads like lumber etc. Should have bought one years ago.

Sturdy , good quality materials and very easy to mount for a quick use. I used it for canoe 12ft and it didnt move at all. I put foam noodle on the bracket for better stability
