OK. I need to be honest, here. When I first got these I was sick to my stomach. I thought, I just spent $200+ for a bunch of long dress socks. I swear, I have dress socks that are thicker, though. When I put them on, they stretched to the point that they went up a shade in color, from seeing my pale skin through them. And, they went up almost to my knees. (I am 6'4", 350# with legs like tree trunks.) I was feeling pretty bad for all of these military reviewers who claimed they were a zillion times better than what Uncle Sam was providing them, and began to think about how to donate all my Wolverine socks over-seas to these poor guys. But, I could not simply ignore all of these rave reviews. I had to be missing something. It made no sense. And, I was. I washed and wore many pairs. I am not running through the dessert in sand, but I am running through the city with lineman's snips. These are the best socks I have ever owned. They are sturdy as hell. They have some sort of magical sock voodoo that makes them thin, yet feel thick and they do not allow my feet to slip in the boots. I'm not so sure about the padding I think I saw mentioned, but they do appear to be sewn in a reinforcing pattern where it matters. I have only been wearing them for a couple of weeks, now, but... wow. I will certainly come back for more.
