859XT Canyon XT Basket, Black, One Size

This is definitely a bit pricier than some other options, but honestly, it is worth it if you want a no-hassle install and solid performance. Thule always makes quality gear, and this was no exception. I bought the extension and locking bolts along with the base kit. One thing I wish is that they would just include at least a pair of locking bolts right in the box, instead of making you buy them separately. It looks great on my 2011 Outback and only took about 30 minutes to install, even working alone. Everything fit together smoothly and feels very sturdy. If you want something that just works and looks good, this is a solid pick.

This rack is great. I debated whether to purchase this or go with the aluminum Thule Trail XT Basket, Medium . I'm glad I chose this particular model because it is stronger, can carry more and it is easier to strap (the kind of things i carry, anyway) stuff to it; looks fantastic too. You even can mount light bars, shovels and other things to it with a little creativity (see my review on the Yakima Snap Round/Square - Set of 4 be aware that this is the newer model, as there is another NOT named XT which is similar but of slightly different shape, so the extension of this one does not fit the other model and vice-versa. I agree with other reviewers in that instructions for assemble are somewhat tricky. I researched other websites in order to be well aware on how to put it together beforehand and even then I was a bit puzzled at times. I recommend purchasing the locks ( Thule 544 Lock Cylinders for Car Racks (4-Pack),4 Pack ) but of course this is only a deterrent, as any determined thief aided with darkness, time and tools on his hands will find a way to defeat or break any lock and take off with your expensive rack; however with the locks on they will probably not attempt it as it will take time to take the rack off the car and it is not exactly light anyway.

Bought this basket for its sturdiness and Thule reputation. Fantastic product. Pros- Rugged, looks great, surprisingly quiet. Cons- typical terrible Swedish instructions (see Ikea), install is slightly trial and error since order of doing things can be problematic... By the way, it's pronounced Tooley! :) This basket took a good 5 hours to install since we had never done it before. Definitely is a two person job to do it right. Be sure to measure! In a 21 Crosstrek it's fantastic since the aero bars still allow Sunroof operation. Be prepared for a 2-3 mpg drop. Still well worth it! Got the Cargo net and locks to go with it. Very happy with the purchase.

Love this basket. It is well built and packaged well fit shipping. Good instructions for assembly. Once installed, it is easy on and easy off.

Always on the road but never enough space in our trunk so we had to get this one! Had on our 2021 Mazda 3 and now currently have it on 2024 Mazda cx-30. It is very spacious, fits well with bars, has a little bit of a noise when driving but NOT loud enough to annoy you. Very VERY sturdy and can hold a lot of weight. Most we had up there was about 165lbs. It is a bit on the pricier side but it is great. It is easy to assemble and put on the car. If we ever get another, will purchase this basket again.

This is the only basket on the market that follows the natural contours of most SUVs. I had it on a 2019 Rav4 Adventure and it worked very well, was easy to install, was sturdy, and LOOKED GREAT. HOWEVER, When people mention wind noise from these roof baskets, THEY ARE NOT KIDDING. This one, although a bit more aerodynamic is no exception. It howled, whistled, and made the moon-roof unsusable. Bit of a trade off for something so functional, but definitely something to consider. I lost about 2-3 MPG after installing this as well from drag.

Very sturdy and super easy to assemble and install. It doesn't include keyed locks so don't forget to order those. Installed and locked down, this basket isn't going anywhere. A bit expensive considering some baskets that are a little more basic geometry, but dimensionally similar, are less than half of the cost of this unit. On my 2017 VW Alltrack I have experienced almost no degradations in fuel economy, less than 0.5mpg loss at worst and no loss at best. Super happy my MPG's didn't tank wearing this as a car hat.

I had really high expectations for this rack. I needed a rack quickly to haul some cargo on my 2013 Outback and figured Thule was a trusted brand worth the extra money for ease of mind. I wanted a fool proof rack where I wouldn't have to worry about quality control, and my faith was sorely mistaken. I'm giving this rack one star because the rack's attachment covers are not secure and have come off numerous times. Any rack that has parts that come off without notice is an automatic failure of a product and for me, I'll be lodging a complaint with the NHTSA. It's a huge safety issue even though the part that comes off is no bigger then a pencil box. My issue is that both of the driver's side covers do not stay attached. I contacted Thule on facebook about the issue and they said they would send new covers and immediately suggested, without apology, I buy the locking cores for the caps which would cost an additional $60 ( 4 pack from amazon) for an already premium priced rack. Edit: I contacted Thule on facebook for additional covers. They claimed they would be shipped but never were. They are now unresponsive to a simple request to see if the covers had been sent out. Clearly Thule has no interest in supporting or standing behind their products.

I purchased this Thule Canyon XT for my MINI JCW to increase its carrying capacity and its been such a worthwhile decision. Not only did Amazon promptly deliver it, it was straightforward to install and can carry up to 75Kg. It also looks rather cool too, with a number of young people making comment on how they like it. The basket itself is good quality, but the wind fairing at the front arrived warped and I can’t seem to get it in place (a few others suffered from this issue too). Also, the screws that help fit the basket on the roof rails are very, very short so I had to get new longer ones to make sure the basket doesn’t fly off

I’ve been using the Thule roof basket for a while now, and I’m really impressed with the overall quality and performance. The build is solid and durable, and it gives me plenty of extra storage space for road trips and everyday use. One thing that really stands out is how quiet it is. I was expecting some wind noise at highway speeds, but there’s practically none, which makes driving much more comfortable. I also noticed that it doesn’t negatively affect fuel efficiency as much as I thought it would. Even on longer drives, the impact on gas consumption has been minimal. Overall, it’s a reliable, well designed roof basket that looks great and performs even better. Definitely worth the investment!
