I have always wanted an outback coat. I love it. this is not a light coat. bbut it sits beautifully on your shoulders. great quality. bought the matching hood, wool liner for the winter, and an outback kodiack oil skin hat in black. all of it is expensive but i expect many years of service. With the liner I hope to get well into winter or possibly thru it. and of coures you are now offically a duck, water proof from head to toe.

Before purchasing this coat from Amazon, I was able to go to one of the many (I reside in Texas) western stores in town and try it on to get the sizing correct. Obviously I would suggest doing the same if you have the option. I am normally between a medium and a large, but I found that a small actually fit me best. This is certainly because the coat is sized to be layered, making it a little larger than normal. Since it doesn't get that cold around here, the size down is perfect if you aren't planning on wearing anything too thick underneath it. When the coat arrived (quickly as usual) it was saturated in oil (as designed) and smelling pretty foul (oil side effect) requiring me to hang it outside for a about a week. Finally the excess oil had dried away (taking the foul odor with it) leaving me with an awesome brown duster that is crazy waterproof. I removed the cape, to get away from the Van Helsing look, and what I am left with is a rather unique looking coat that I can't wait to wear once winter rolls around. I will say this is a pretty bold fashion item. If you are the type to feel embarrassed or anxious wearing something outside of the norm this probably isn't for you. If you like to stand out, have a thing for classic/badass styles, or simply don't care this is a very good option for a long coat. I personally cannot attest to its durability, but it seems to be solidly crafted. There are plenty of reviews here from people that use these for the kind of work they were intended for (ranching etc) and have raved about them. I expect it to last for quite some time.

Love it!! I'm 5'10" about 175 lbs and I bought a large. It fits perfect for me to wear a layer of long underwear with wool pants and a wool shirt. It also fits fine without the thick under layers but I bought this for use in the colder seasons when I need the under layers anyways. Quality of workmanship is outstanding. I haven't beaten it up too bad yet but I suspect this jacket is going to be with me a long time. I'm the kind of person who goes through outdoor clothing faster than a kid goes through candy. I'm always out crashing through the bush, running a power saw getting firewood and warming up next to a big fire. This thing is perfect for all of that. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.
