This is my 3rd keyboard cover brand. the last 2 didnt, well, last! the keys wouldn't register and would break after light use. This Tomsenn keyboard felt different right out of the box. First off, it was the only time I got a surface keyboard actually packaged by the manufacturer to withstand shipping. The keys are sturdy, register with no ghosting and have a satisfying click to them. This is also my first LED lit keyboard and was worried it would effect its battery but knew I could turn it off if so, Ive kept the lights on my favorite color all night and didnt experience any less battery time than previous brands. The magnets all are strong and the lack of flex to the board are terrific. If i had any criticism, I would say the USB C connector could hold the connection a little more snug, but it does the job just fine and a non-issue. I picked Tomsenn because they are form Shenzhen. I have never been to Shenzhen but almost every electronic I own (my phone, my computer parts, my laptop, server replacement parts) thats lasted me years has been from that city. Tomsenn is no exception. Buying products form a company located in Shenzhen has never failed me yet and I wish I discovered Tomsenn sooner.

So, I presume the parasitic nature of those who makes these products is not lost on their customers. And I also presume that like me, they were led to this purchase because their Surface Pro keyboards stopped working, and thought a replacement keyboard by Microsoft seems way too expensive. Yep, that's the trap I fell into and I regret it. Please ignore the nonsensical description of the product in the Amazon description. The things you need to know are: (a) the dimensions are slightly bigger than all Surface Pro versions so while the fit is workable, its not neat (and its much heavier than the Microsoft keyboard); (b) it works on Bluetooth so there can be delays on connection; (c) the battery does not last very long, so you are constantly in need of charging; (d) now whereas, the product is still relatively functional despite the issues (a) to (c), the issue that makes this a waste of money is the touchpad - its awful! For some reason (possibly related to drivers), the pad has a number of 'gesture rules' that are explained in the instruction manual. Good that is explained, but....why? Why can it not function as a normal touchpad. It makes it completely unworkable. Every time I track whilst in an open window, it will minimise, move it or even close it - perhaps because I have swiped too slowly or too quickly and enabled one of the 'gesture rules'. And I cannot do anything to disable them. I just want it to perform as a normal touchpad. You will be better off buying the Microsoft replacement, because as much as this seems cheaper, it still costs enough in comparison.

Edit - been using for a month or so now. Touch pad can be little funny and sensitive. Some keys get skipped when typing sometimes which is annoying. But for the price compared to what Microsoft wants, the hiccups don’t bother me! Great quality, quite impressed actually. Microsoft wants $200+ for a replacement keyboard, a joke. Love that this one has different back light colours and a Bluetooth option which my original broken one from Microsoft does not offer. Very impressed with this product. Will update if anything changes.

Great keyboard but the space bar does not work consistently. At least 50 percent of the time, it needs to be clicked twice. I have resorted to just typing everything and going back to editing and adding spaces after. My so used my Surface Pro and laptop and he was super frustrated. As am I but I've already paid good money so I'll just have suck it up to work around it.

Unfortunately this keyboard is hilariously bad. Many of the keys keep sending a signal that they’re being pressed even when they’re not being touched. The z key is a particular troublemaker for me (thisz is a sentenzce wherzez I didzn’t backspace the random extra zz’zs zizt azdded in by itself after pressing the key) and sometimes it will stay completely stuck until the key is pressed a few more times. One of my students joked that my keyboard seems tired. Yesterday my Surface was getting extremely hot while it was closed and in my bag because the keyboard kept telling sending a signal that the z key was being held down, keeping my device awake. The brightness keys also get stuck like this, forcing me to choose between absolute max/min brightness only. Other issues: some of the keys are wobbly, crooked, and not fully attached (see pics). The manual is full of errors and typos (“Erro checking” is my favorite!). The touchpad is laggy and inaccurate. The USB-C charger doesn’t register as charging unless plugged in very tightly, and the keyboard stops charging if the charger is moved even slightly. It does have some upsides though. The clicks on the touchpad and on the keys are pretty satisfying. It’s also a few dollars cheaper than the competition. It does have a USB-C port rather than micro-USB (although the connector is pretty bad). The magnet it uses to attach to the Surface is pretty strong (possibly even stronger than an official one). Despite the upsides though, the key sticking issue and the random waking up issue makes it totally unusable (not to mention the other cons). Unless you’re in it for the zcomedy valuez ofz hilazzriouszz typozs --- I’d avoid this completely and spend some more for a different keyboard. I’ll be returning mine.
