Second purches from Detoit Axle will buy more from them
Some well made parts from Detroit Axle. I had gotten a Front hub assembly form Detroit Axle a few weeks before needing ball joints for my other truck. I was so impressed with the quality of the hub assembly I searched out the ball joints from them and YES the quality was just as good looking. Have only installed the ball joints not put them into use because it's on a long term project but I have no worries because the hub assembly has been going strong on my daily driver.

Ill fitting, poorly made, loose fit-had to be tack welded in place
I was a professional, over educated & certified MASTER tech (with all advanced certs) for almost 30 years before the issues I encountered in the Army rendered my body incapable of working or even being at my business and I had to sell my shop in '14. My son ordered these (I usually go with NAPA's premium line) as his ball joints had minimal movement but being it was going in for inspection I told him to get the parts and I'd put them in. Being in college is the why he bought this brand. Even though I'm a Disabled Veteran I still do not cut corners on quality and I'm upset I allowed him to do so so he was able to save a few dollars. GOD do I wish I had ordered the parts myself. My son liked these because they have grease fittings (although they NEED TO BE 90 degree fittings!) and the price was right. I don't even look at price 9within reason) as I could never have comebacks or ill fitting parts that would tie up a rack/lift/bay longer than planned as we were ALWAYS booked 5-7 days in advance. This Civic had original ball joints and the car is in VG condition despite having 220k miles on it (proper maintenance with Mobil 1 oil, transmission fluid drain/refill (HONDA OE Fluid only in this one) and there's no leaks, no loss of oil/oil consumption etc. I also replaced the control arm bushings as they were beginning t deteriorate (tiny cracks in rubber) but after I pressed out the original ball joints these literally were able to be pressed in BY HAND!!! I tried peening the inside of the spindle to make the fit tighter which helped a little but not enough and being I was working at a friend's garage 20 miles from nowhere in the late afternoon there was no getting a different set of ball joints from NAPA or anywhere else. Though I DESPISE "rigging" anything I had to MIG weld (small spots to ensure ball joint never got hot enough to melt any internals or the protective rubber boot) with 5 small spot welds around each ball joint. The ball joints never got hot as I continually sprayed them with water from a water bottle after each tack weld. The ball joints NOW are LOCKED in place and allow for zero movement but this should NEVER EVER be an issue! The original ball joints came out with significant resistance (MAC ball joint press with over $1000 of adapters) and there was no wear inside of the spindle holes where the ball joints are pressed through the spindle. These were .015" smaller in outside diameter Vs the original Honda ball joints. I know they have a snap ring that would prevent the ball joint from falling out and the way this suspension is designed the ball joint can not possibly fall out as it is pressed in from the topside of the spindle with the tapered stud pointing straight down which goes through the lower control arm. Fine. BUT, no movement is allowed in these ball joints for state inspection. Besides, IF left "loose" there's add3ed freeplay in the steering which means the alignment angles (Camber/Caster/Toe/SAI/Toe-out on turns etc. etc. etc.) would change enough when moving to cause irregular tire wear & a much less positive "feel" in the steering wheel. These had better hold up for years because I'll have to grind the tack welds off in order to remove/replace these joints. This is unacceptable. I've never come across this when using Napa's premium line and before the quality went south MOOG or Original Equipment. The only other steering/suspension component brands I ever used would be Beck Arnley (OE on many imports), DANA and AC/Delco as I REFUSED to use "economy" parts as every car leaving my shop had my name on it whether I did the work or one of my employees did the work. People who were interested in "economy" parts were politely told I would not use them and they should take the work elsewhere. Reasons like this are the WHY. I have a fellow professional who's been one of my best friends since we attended technical college (Automotive/Diesel technology @ Johnson College) and it's his 6 bay not a business fully equipped shop I do my work out of these days though he lives almost 30 miles away. 95% of my tools & equipment that didn't get included in the sale of my shop are also there. He has been using Detroit Axle components on complete suspension rebuilds on 4x4 trucks and I usually will do that kind of work as I can sit on a stool and let the power tools do the work for me. I never had an issue with any of their parts prior to this, but I am not at all happy with the fact these were made too small. UNACCEPTABLE!
